We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mia Hall . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mia below.
Mia , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I came up with the name ‘Parables From The Projects Productions’ through trial and feedback. At first, my dad and I were going to name our podcast ‘True Tales from the Hood’ but after using it on our first few trial episodes, we wanted something that could be more uniquely ours (as ‘Tales from the Hood’ is a popular urban Thriller.)
Further, we were able to share where the stories we had came from but – the ‘True Tales from the Hood’ title didn’t fully describe the faith aspect that is an integral part of our stories and our lives. I started to play around with ideas and other words for ‘tales / stories’ while on the phone with my dad and thought about ‘Parables.’ Not only were Parables ‘stories that teach lessons’ and a significant part of Jesus’ sermons, but they also started with the same letter as ‘projects’ – where both my dad and myself grew up – I love alliteration. We also believe that the projects play a large role in how we move through the world.
That name had to come from God. We want to share stories that teach lessons, originally learned by the storyteller (most times), from where people grew up – that could be the projects or wherever they lived as a child that had a significant impact on their lives,

Mia , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
about yourself, how you got into your industry / business / discipline / craft etc, what type of products/services/creative works you provide, what problems you solve for your clients and/or what you think sets you apart from others. What are you most proud of and what are the main things you want potential clients/followers/fans to know about you/your brand/your work/ etc.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is having the opportunity to have others feel seen by your work. Also, being able to help people through the medium of art is a blessing and something that I enjoy in which I participate in.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I had to have resilience growing up in the projects in East New York, Brooklyn. I remember when I was applying to Harvard and I want to see the school and go to one of the preview weekends they had for their graduate school. I had never been to the campus before so I wanted to check it out by any means necessary. I booked my flight to Boston but I didn’t have enough money to book a hotel so I made a plan to ride the train at night until it was time for me to go to the second day of the orientation. Thankfully, I told my friend who a previously lived in Boston and she was able to connect me with her friend who offer me a place to stay.
