We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mia Green. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mia below.
Mia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
Yes, I’m very happy as a creative. I have had regular jobs and I know the pros and cons that they bring so I don’t think about what it would be like to have one. Honestly, I think about how blessed I am to not HAVE to have a regular job!
Being creative allows me to use my talents to create content and products that highlight and support my business not someone else’s. I control my income. I control my intellectual property and determine its worth. That’s something that I was never able to do working a regular job.
Does being a creative beautypreneur have its difficult moments absolutely, but so does working for someone else too!

Mia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am originally from South Florida, and I started my creative journey in the beauty industry as a makeup artist. I absolutely love using cosmetics to enhance a woman’s natural beauty.
In 2004 I created Les Fleur Cosmetics and ran a small boutique selling my cosmetics and offering beauty services inside of a local beauty salon in South Florida. I did editorial makeup for a local magazine as well as various personal and corporate photoshoots and weddings, I was in my element, and I loved it.
In 2009, my husband and I packed up and relocated to Dallas, Texas. The plan was to open a cosmetics boutique here in Dallas, but shortly after settling in I became pregnant with my daughter, and then again with my son. I found myself being a stay home mom therefore my original plans were temporarily on hold.
As my little ones got older, I slowly began moving around the Dallas beauty scene. I did a couple of photoshoots here and there, did a couple of weddings, and took on a few client referrals. As I was doing this, I noticed that because I had gained weight from dealing with fibroids and two c-sections I wasn’t able to dress in the manner that I was accustomed to since the garments that I wanted to wear weren’t flattering to my new figure. I was in between sizes and thought that frumpy oversized clothing was all I’d be able to wear.
My girlfriend introduced me to a blog where the creator used high fashion runway shows as inspiration to re-create her own handmade knock-offs of the designer looks she saw going down the runway. The looks she re-created were absolutely incredible, and they were totally my style. I followed that blog for a year and then decided that I wanted to try my hand at sewing garments for myself that reflected who I am as an individual — garments where my voice could clearly be heard chic, sassy, fun, sophisticated, and elegant.
So, I taught myself how to sew and fell in love with the freedom that it gave me. The confidence that I had when I wore a garment that I created, that beautifully fit my figure and allowed my voice to be heard through its design was addicting for me. I was hooked. I wanted to teach every woman who had a desire to find her voice in fashion and create one-of-a-kind garments that fit her body type how to sew. There are many women today who struggle with finding clothing that is chic, fashionable, and fits their body type. More than 60% of women are in-between sizes like me and have difficulty finding clothes that properly fit them because of a full bust or distended belly. It’s because of this that I created The Couture Beauty and Sewing Academy.
The Couture Beauty and Sewing Academy is an online school dedicated to teaching women and children the art of makeup application and garment construction allowing them to create a signature style customized to their specific proportions so that they can showcase their favorite features through beauty and fashion. Students can sign up and take the classes at their own pace and from the comfort of their own homes. There’s no experience necessary we teach even the absolute novice that has never touched a sewing machine before.
I started teaching my daughter to sew at age four and she is now growing up in the business too. She is the youngest brand ambassador for the BERNINA sewing machine company, and she teaches the children’s sewing classes online at the academy.
The thing I’m most proud of is being able to teach women how to love the skin they’re in and sew garments for their specific body type. When I get emails and pictures of students’ work and see their joy and confidence in the clothing that they are wearing because they created it and it fits them perfectly it confirms for me over and over that I am doing what I was born to do.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, my mission is to inspire and encourage women to create their own sense of style according to who they truly are not what society says they should be. Women who want to find themselves and speak exactly who they are using beauty and fashion as their voice.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is the freedom that it gives me. Freedom to be at all of my son’s games, freedom to create income and provide for my family without sacrificing quality time with them.
