We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mia Eremita a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Ever since I was a little girl I always loved being creative. I went through a lot of phases in my life. I tried becoming a fashion designer at 9 years old. A photographer at 12 and a video editor at 15! I always thought of these phases of my life as a hobby, until I realized people do these things as a full time job. Thats when my mindset changed. I went to a few college programs while in high school and had hands on experience with videography, video editing, and scriptwriting. After going through these programs thats when I really knew what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.
I then went to college as a communications major and journalism minor with dreams of becoming a journalist for esports or entertainment. While in college I began streaming on twitch and posting short form gaming content on tik tok (all for fun). My second year of college is when I posted a video of my Halloween costume to tik tok; I received MILLIONS of views and THOUSANDS of followers in just 24 hours…
That’s when I realized social media was another option for my future. I started taking my content creation to the next level. I upgraded my setup, posted daily on tik tok and streamed on twitch 5 days a week! As an effect I started getting tons of emails for partnerships with brands and dozens of sponsorship opportunities. When I realized people made money posting their own content and running their own business I made it my goal to succeed. Although i’m still not doing content full time; one day I will be there- look back at myself and be proud.

Mia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi my name is Mia Eremita, I’m 22 and based out of NYC, but online I go by an alias “miamouse.” Miamouse was created when I was just 2 years old by my family. For Halloween one year I dressed up as Minnie Mouse and my family kept joking around saying “Oh look! It’s Mia Mouse!” Ever since that day it’s been my nickname, as well as my username for every single social media since the beginning of time.
Throughout my life I’ve always posted videos on the internet. In my early teens I created a Minecraft youtube, fan editing accounts on instagram and countless vacation montages. It’s fair to say I’ve been creating content my whole life. I never fully thought of it as a dream to do this full time because I thought that it was so out of reach it wasn’t even worth dreaming about.
Fast forward a few years- I am now a gaming content known for my VALORANT content. For those who may not know, VALORANT is an online multiplayer first person shooter game. I post short form content on social media daily, stream on twitch 4 days a week and do collaborations with brands quite often. When I realized creators make a living off of these partnerships with brands and companies I opened my own LLC and truly felt like my dream was beginning to become reality! Not only do I label myself as a “content creator” but as “on air talent” as well. I freelance hosting for collegiate esports events, with dreams of one day going full time with a hosting job. My dream for that side of my life is still waiting for its time to shine. I would love to be a host for professional esports events or even events in entertainment, possibly award shows or game shows!
Something I am most proud of as a creator is my positive influence on the gaming community. I keep my streams very happy go lucky and upbeat. I have also tried setting an example by hosting charity streams and donating to countless charities with my community. As for hosting, I was awarded “Shoutcaster of the Year,” for NACE (National Association of Collegiate Esports). But all of these accomplishments within the past 3 years of my life marks only the beginning of my career.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
This story I’m about to to tell is a recent one. As you know I’m a gaming content creator and I need a PC (computer) to stream and create my content. This past September my PC overheated and broke as a result from an ultra hot summer. I spent an entire 2 months without a computer, ordering parts and attempting to get it fixed! In the beginning I did not know what to do, I couldn’t work, I couldn’t game, I couldn’t film videos or connect with my online friends. I needed to completely unplug for 2 whole moths. And I know 2 months doesn’t sound like a lot but in those moments it felt like an eternity; but it wasn’t all bad. Those 2 months taught me a very important lesson. My whole life can’t revolve around my work. Since I work for myself, I work whatever hours I want! Sometimes that entails me working 24/7 just because I can, and that’s what I THINK will make me the most successful. Having 2 months to unplug taught me that I need balance in my life. I need to go outside more, hang out with my family, friends, and boyfriend, and do an activity that doesn’t involve a screen.
After my PC was fixed and I started working again I was able to efficiently balance my work and social life, not having one overpower the other.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I think the most important part when it comes to building an audience or community on social media is to NOT do it for the numbers. When I started posting on social media I wasn’t doing it for the “money” or the “fame.” I simply just wanted to share my creative work with people who think similarly to me. My first video that went “viral” was a video of my Halloween costume, when I was dressed up as video game character from the game VALORANT. The character I dressed up as goes by the name “Raze.” Everyone applauded my outfit and told me that they absolutely LOVE my “cosplay.” At the time I had no idea what cosplay even was so I looked it up. Cosplay is: “the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game.” That night I posted that video I gained my first 10,000 followers by accident.
I’m a firm believer that if you are doing something for fun, just sharing your hard work with the world it will do so much better than a video purely made for the money or views.
