Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mia De’Nay. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
In 2014 I knew I wanted to become a model professionally, but I did not know where to start. I came in contact with this modeling coach/photographer named Gregory Lopez through a mutual friend and basically he took me under his wing from 2014-2017. He taught me about different poses, facial expressions, lighting, bookings, and pricing for my craft. In 2019 he inspired me to pick up a camera and continue what he taught me to others. He is really the reason that I love what I do in front and behind the camera.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Mia De’Nay and I am a professional model in Memphis, TN. I began modeling in 2014 with the help of a modeling coach/photographer named Gregory Lopez. He taught me about the modeling industry and the do’s & don’t’s of posing. I became more disciplined with practicing every day in a mirror with different angles and focusing on facial expressions, in particular. During the pandemic I bought my first expensive camera (Sony A6400) and became a modeling coach for beginning models in Memphis, TN. I teach women and men confidence in every pose and that it’s okay to be any shape and size. What sets me apart from others is that I teach breaking Norm of society and Society’s expectations on one’s body.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to help others gain confidence and to love the skin they are in.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Just show support. Supporting someone takes nothing and it will go a long way in the end.
