We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mia Casanova. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mia below.
Hi Mia, thanks for joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
For me I wished I would have taken the jump to being a full-time hair and makeup artist sooner. Before doing this full time I was in nursing school, just helping out friends and family that needed to look special on their events. What really pushed me to do the jump was my daughter. Amor was born Exactly at thirty-five weeks and was rushed to a NNICU. This was during covid so the worst ideas were running through my mind, what happens if I go back to working in the lab and bring something home to make her even sicker or could kill her. While on maternity leave I took the jump and haven’t looked back. II took a scary moment for me to do the jump when I could have done it years before and be farther in my industries than I am now.

Mia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Mia and my business is Lucid Dreams, I create dream looks for you. How I got started in doing makeup would be back in high school, like most girls I feel in love with makeup and couldn’t get enough of it. I was doing anybodies and everybody’s makeup that would let me. That slowly blossomed in a part time job for fun and now has turned into a full time job that is allowing me to be a stay at home mom. I work with you for your biggest events to your smallest events where you want to shine to create a look no one has seen on you before. Lucid Dreams was actually makeup by Mia, but me and my family knew it would need a strong name to stand out from the crowd. With the help from everyone and one shiny penny later Lucid Dreams was born. Im even expanding into creating a product line to help other makeup lovers create and express their looks.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Like most people in the beauty industries and almost every service industry social media has been the best way for me to work with clients. Im lucky enough to have been in contact with photographers who work with me for their projects and recommend me when they have a past or current clients looking for hair and makeup.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Just a few months ago I noticed sometimes there can be a slow period for hair and makeup artist, if this is our only job we still have bills to pay and business expenses to keep up with. This pushed me to start creating product to sell in the slow seasons. Just before summer of this year im expected to launch Coven. Coven is my product line, the first launch will include my spellbound body highlights. And in the fall there will be two more product launches.
