Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mia Bradford. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mia, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
My goal of redefining self-care to include financial well-being is how I uniquely contribute to my industry. No one I’ve ever spoken to has heard of self-care and finances coming together. And money can be a stressful point for some. I’ve created an experience for women to have a better relationship with their finances and themselves. To be whole and well we must approach wellness from an integrative standpoint. It’s not just mental, just physical or just financial. We must address the whole person. Given my background as a yoga instructor and counselor, I incorporate self-care techniques such as breathwork and cognitive reframing to help my clients with calming anxiety that may come from financial challenges and to attain mental clarity to get clear on their current financial situation and execute simple strategies to make their goals and dreams a reality.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For several years, I have been on a God-inspired journey that has transformed my life. I want to share part of it with you in case it can help you to live a more harmonious lifestyle of self-care.
God gives us two commands: Love God and love people. At our very core, as women, we want to love and be loved. However, we can’t love others well unless we love ourselves well. Many of us claim to love ourselves, but it isn’t reflected in how we treat our mind, body and soul on a daily basis.
As one year was coming to a close and others were looking forward to the new year, I found myself in a depression. I was feeding my mind negative self-talk. I was in constant physical pain. I was tired, I lacked energy, and I wasn’t on top of my game. I also had some emotional issues around rejection and abandonment that I needed to deal with. The funny thing is that on the outside it appeared that I had it all together–the car, the promotions, the business. But on the inside, I was falling apart and I was experiencing physical issues because I hadn’t taken care of my emotional issues.
Not only was my mind and my body not right, I also began to move away from the strong money habits I had developed, which led to me accumulating debt. Believe it or not, money habits are not just about dollars and cents; they are an outward manifestation of inner “stuff,” whether that stuff is good or bad.
In the midst of this experience, I was led to create Beyond the Busyness; and that is how my journey began. Beyond the Busyness held me accountable to the lifestyle I wanted to live and model for others. My life’s work is to empower high-achieving women to give themselves permission to release the guilt of taking time for themselves. My mission is to create a new definition of self-care that is holistic in nature; focusing on emotional, physical and financial well-being. After working with me, women have a financial plan in place, are able to practice guilt-free self-care daily, and are working towards wholeness in all areas of their lives.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me has been referrals from current clients. By far, this is the biggest compliment any business owner can ever receive, in my humble opinion. My goal is to ensure that my clients have an experience that they remember… an experience that was easeful and most importantly, met their needs. This lets me know that they have confidence in my expertise and my ability to help their loved ones as I helped them.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
One of the best things I’ve invested in, is a client relationship manager, aka a CRM. This allows me to remember where I am in the sales process with the client and their birthdays and their family’s birthdays. With automated workflows, I receive reminders to follow up on assigned tasks and schedule annual reviews and upcoming appointments. Lastly, it allows me to connect clients to the referral source, if applicable. The CRM is connected to other platforms that I use for scheduling and accounting, like Quickbooks and Acuity, and allows me to have important information in one place. I can even run reports to track closes, sales, and other important data.
Every year for Thanksgiving or Christmas, I send a branded gift and card that people love. I’ve even been asked if I sell my gifts, which I don’t at this time. I get them custom designed every year and mail them out to new clients. It’s solely exclusive to them and they feel special. I also call or text to ensure they received it.
I also created a special letter for all of my insurance clients to give to their beneficiaries so they can contact me in situations where someone passes away prematurely or needs an accelerated death benefit due to an illness.
This year, I plan to implement birthday cards because I love celebrating others and I want to encourage my clients to celebrate life.
I also send articles or resources throughout the year if I know it’s something they need or can benefit from.
