Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mia Beasley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mia, appreciate you joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
My defining moment started in college. I was in school for a bachelor’s in education but I needed to figure out what I was doing there. I felt deeply misplaced but I also wasn’t sure what I actually wanted to do with my life so I just did anything to keep myself busy. Since I was 15 I knew I wanted to inspire young girls but I just wasn’t sure how and that dream felt too far to reach.
I was having a hard time in school even with an input of high effort, it just wasn’t working out. Between keeping up with the expenses and the grading scale, I spent more time stressed than anything else. The summer After my freshman year, I asked God to point me in the direction I was supposed to go. I wanted to dream again and figure out my real true purpose. What I was pursuing was not working.
On my Instagram, all I would post was inspirational messages regarding mental health and lifestyle and I would get a mass amount of feedback from mostly women on my account. So then I tried different ways to appeal to my audience through a website, podcasts, Youtube videos, etc. I really loved inspiring my peers, it felt so right. From that point on I started making that my job. I didn’t know what it was called but I wanted to be a public figure for young adult women!
Mia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Mia Beasley. I am a Certified Personal Development Life Coach and an Author. My target is young adult women but I don’t discriminate. My goal is to positively influence women personally because growing up I didn’t have access to a lot of things regarding self-worth, choices, and growth. Life can feel like we don’t have any other options or that we are experiencing things by ourselves.
I provide a safe space to my audience by being transparently open about my experiences and tools I used to work through the rut. A couple of ways I reach people is by 1 releasing my novelette dedicated to some of my childhood traumas titled “Radical Honesty”. In the book I discuss being a fatherless daughter, experiencing different types of abuse, etc.
I blog , vlog , and I also do video/audio recordings of my podcast show “Retrospective”. My goal of having all of these options is because people receive things in different ways, whether that is reading , watching , or listening. In those contributions I started making short films and my latest and greatest venture is hosting a (in-person) workshop about self-worth in March of 2023.
I’ve always taken pride in putting myself in the position , I don’t wait for people to do it for me. I put my own money into the things I’m doing because I really love changing the lives of my peers and followers. There are so many ways to live this life and I just want people to know that. People think they don’t have space to pivot , when it’s just that they have to make room for themselves.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What has helped build my reputation is me being vulnerable and transparent with my audience. I practice exactly what I preach. The main idea that stretches is that perfection isn’t real. Life isnt gonna look “Great” all the time and that is okay. Most people who I’ve interacted with in person can say that I’m even better than what I come across on social media. I do alot for the community as well. I never wanted to be one of those people who fake it because it doesn’t feel or look right.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One thing that i had to unlearn and still working on is that it’s okay to shoot for #1. I use to shoot for 2nd place or last place because i didn’t want people to think i had a inflated ego shooting straight for the #1 spot. When I was younger, I would participate in sports or for an organization, and I would get shut down whenever I put in my best effort. That always made me feel really small. I thought if I went into my shell, I would be better off because then that way people wouldn’t be able to hurt my confidence. Growing into the woman that I am , I found myself afraid of my true power. It made me scared to challenge myself. I would try things and instantly say, “if I get 2nd place that it’s honestly fine with me”. If anyone knows about the Law of Attraction … That isn’t the best mindset to have, so I had to change my mind about things. If I wanted to be an example or lead people, I need to have the mind of a true personally confident person. I’m working on it but I’m starting to believe in myself and my power.
