We were lucky to catch up with Mi.Yayø recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mi.Yayø, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Music was an early love for me starting from my childhood. Growing up in Miami, I’ve been around many superstars (Trick Daddy, Trina, Pretty Ricky, more) at a young age watching them create music in the studio is when I knew I wanted to make music. At the time my biggest hold back was my mentors, at that time, convinced me that my football journey should be the focus due to the age restrictions as an athlete. Even then I use to write in college, never recorded until my career was all said and done! Due to depression and self evaluations, I’m here today as the artist I am!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
What sets me apart from others is my Motivation fueling my work ethic. 2nd to none and I stand on that! I got into this industry, from being victim of depression. Not knowing where else to turn I always found myself surrounded by music and eventually lead to me in a recording booth where I recorded my 1st session with Mike Hittman! From there it was figuring out the artistry and eventually the business.
As a independent artist, I’d be a liar if I said it wasn’t tough, but it’s worth it. Yes, signing a deal will be a major step, but then I feel you never really understand what you’re into because there’s people that does everything except lay the vocals. Being independent in my eyes brings more of an appreciation of the grind.
Service I provide, is split between myself and my team that ranges from a Mi.Yayø feature, creative direction from Cookie, graphic designing from RNR & even a merch depart where you can purchase (youth2kingdoms.com/shop) to support.
In this journey this far, I can say I’m most proud of myself for stand 10 toes down and solid but mainly my team for not only believing in me but actually believing in themselves!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’ve dealt with resilience early as a pre-teen living in Miami. A fast-life, fast-paced city where you have to be active or you’ll fall behind quick! Dealing with a lot of violence and street-life activity, I knew wasn’t my ultimate goal. Fortunately, I was able to make it out.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect for me as a artist is my freedom! Freedom to express and to be yourself. For me personal being a artist help me find interest from within that I was to uncomfortable to display. Now I do what I want!
