Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Meyer Joseph. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Meyer thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I started music young. I was always humming and singing, I started guitar at 5, but had a nice piano at home to play on. I even claim to be blessed with absolute pitch at times. I love listening to music for this reason. Starting so young has created some problems for me in some sense. I became overconfident and eager to finish projects. I would also hide other projects due to a following under-confidence which ensues. I would burn both ends of the candle and sacrifice my energy and sleep toward this passion. When I was younger, I would sacrifice my health for the sake of the craft. If there was one thing I would recommend to other creatives, it would be to stay aware of your health and protect your mind from burnout. Many of my projects reflect the intersection of mental health and music for this reason. Music to me can act like a journal at times, logging events and curating moments. It is important as musicians to maintain skill that we treat the mind and body as a part of the instrument which we are trying to make music from. This can apply to other creative fields too. Do not let fear overwhelm the possibility for love and growth.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am mostly a one man ship at this point, but I got into things throughout high school and college at University of Maryland Baltimore County. Meyer Joseph is my real name. First and Middle initial at least. My artistry fuses many genres as I am eclectic and also a bit eccentric at times. I have a lot of passion for what I do. Mainly though I fuse elements of Soul, Indie, Pop, Electronic and Jazz together in a vocalized way. Much of my Meyer Joseph music is vocal and I use an improvised studio approach. I mostly work within my home shared by family. I think my taste set me apart from other artists simply because i fuse some many different styles together in a cohesive manner. I really enjoy combining musics from one end of the emotional and cultural palate to another. I also have a lot of knowledge in other crafts which helps inspire me and keep a flow going. I do think of my work as a tapestry weaving different stories and perspectives together. Services I provide mainly are for niche production at times, but I become hesitant since I also do so much work in the mental health field at the moment.

Not the wisest thing to dive into in my line of work in some sense. Speculative values can be inflated and I see this false inflation happening with Non-Fungible-Tokens. I mean also I don’t like the idea of a purely digital currency due to the issues with technology like social media as a whole. I do not love the fact that I am glued to my phone. I spend most my day responding to things and it is a lot handle for someone with a limited capacity such as myself. Honestly I don’t spend much of my time being an early adopter of something like that, although I did in earlier parts of my career with little benefit.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Burnout in college: At age 19 I was diagnosed with a chronic mental health condition. I later completed university after going through much hardship there and wrestling with my own sense of reality. I work part time currently now at a mental health company while also making and producing music.
