We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Metahuman Macaluco a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Metahuman thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
As a young child growing up in the early 2000’s and late 90’s, I always had an eye and an interest in making videos and home movies. My friend Slasher Steve and I met up in middle school, and he became the spark that got into really making early Youtube content. We both made a series called Slasher Friends that was a huge parody of both the show Friends and the entire slasher movie genre. We were in middle school and high school during this time period so most of the humor is very crass humor that kids would find hilarious. Other than Slasher Friends, I was a huge comic book nerd and decided that I was going to create my own version of the Avengers called the EOU and the characters I created at the time include Lucas the Asgardian, Metallious Prime, Professor Nerd, Professor Dork, and Professor Wolfape. Sadly, I started a project I couldn’t finish called the MAC/PC Civil War which was both an homage and a parody of Marvel Comic’s Civil War. Everyone grew older and we all went separate ways to pursue their own ambitions. After this, I started going to college for graphic design and filmmaking at both Palm Beach State College and FAU and barely created content for about 3 years. It wasn’t until 2018 when I came up of the concept of creating a character called The Savage Patrician, a character inspired by Filthy Frank. Around this time I also rebranded and changed my youtube channel name to Frank2818 to Savage Patrician to center around this character while also coming up with Metahuman Macaluco as a side character. However, despite my efforts The Savage Patrician persona did not sit well with the audience and thus had been scrapped and started bringing Metahuman Macaluco into the spotlight. This decision to center my youtube channel around Metahuman and creating an intricate but fictional lore behind his backstory has evolved into something so much bigger than I could have possibly imagined and frankly, I don’t think my younger self would see how far in life he came through youtube.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As Metahuman Macaluco, the content I bring to youtube is cooking videos, local restaurant reviews, vlogs, skits and bits about Metahuman’s fictional background, and most recently interviews with other local artists, business people, DJs, and people heavily involved in the fighting game scene. Going out and seeing and supporting these individuals has seeped nothing but positivity in the sense that I’ll meet other people who also support the same people I have on my platform and in turn it becomes multiple communities forming into one bigger community, for example if I interview a dj and someone from the video game takes interest, that dj may have earned a new fan or if a dj has been itching to join a video game tournament and they watch an interview with a tournament organizer, they might go to that tournament. Ideally, that is my long term goal for everyone to come together and enjoy the several niche communities that exist. Interviewing people and having them be a part of other projects such as restaurant reviews also highlights of the friendliness of that individual who maybe not perceived in a positive light. Outside of having others join the projects, I also just love to entertain and give my opinion whenever applicable and appropriate. The overall idea behind Metahuman Macaluco is “What if Superman was living in Florida?” but I bring that out in real life. I want to also take the time to speak on my friends who run the mobile gaming company called REKT Gaming, they have been a tremendous help in this journey as they have had me help host, organize, and promote their events and in turn a good chunk of my subscriber base comes from the people who I’ve met through them and without them I wouldn’t have made as far as I thought I would. I also want to make a huge shout to Rojo Montana, who you guys have also interviewed, her connections to everyone in the night life industry is somewhat familiar with my work thanks to her putting a good word for me,
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Sometimes, I will run into someone who watches my videos regularly and they’ll either find it hilarious and laugh, some will find inspiration in what I do, and in some rare instances I’ll say something that will change a perspective entirely or just save them from dark thoughts, It feels good knowing someone, let alone a group of people eagerly wait for my next project.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Be present and be supportive. Be a good person and show face and people will recognize, and whenever applicable ask them if they need help, they will remember that.
