We caught up with the brilliant and insightful MeShawn Churko a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, MeShawn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
My personal experiences have allowed me to have a strong passion and dedication to connecting the right crystals with the right customer. It is not just a one time purchase; I communicate with the customer on their goals and needs with a certain stone or tarot deck and make personalized recommendations for them based on my expertise with crystals and spiritual growth and understanding.
I have helped customers who have lost a loved one – and need someone to talk to and relate to that awful experience.
Throughout this process and my personal experience with grief, I give customers a complimentary crystal set with intention as well as a journal for processing the waves of emotion that come with grief.
It’s such a small gesture and truly helped me when I was navigating through the unknown waters of grief – I could hope the least I can do is help them as well.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
In 2018, I lost my mother to cancer. It was a devastating and emotionally crippling time for me. My mother was my best friend, and living life without her felt unnatural.
During my time of grief and understanding loss, I was introduced to crystal healing by a friend. The power of crystals and self-care is truly transformative, and through that I was able to rise above a very dark period and use that to make a legacy and make my mother proud. I truly believe that harnessing the power of crystals through meditation and intention, taking the time to be with oneself and allowing emotional processes to flow through naturally, is the reason why I was driven to open my business.
Now, as a certified Crystal Practitioner and owner of Sage and Magic, I have a strong passion and dedication to connecting the right crystals with the right customer. I take tremendous pride in my ability to assist my clients and deliver on their needs.
With more than 8 years in the industry as a Crystal & Mineral expert, I look out for my clients’ needs ensuring they get the best quality authentic crystals, unique carvings, and ritual tools for personal, spiritual growth, and crystal healing.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I sell on Shopify and Etsy. There are pros and cons to both. Let me start by telling the pros. Etsy is great because it has a built-in audience of people that are looking for your products. The pros of Shopify are great in that has low fees per order and it’s scalable in terms of being able to sell whatever you want without restrictions (for the most part.) The cons of Etsy are that the fees are quite high in terms of monthly fees, listing fees, advertising fees, and also if you sell an item that has been advertised, there’s an additional fee charged to the business owner and those fees can add up quickly! The cons of Shopify are small relatively, however you do need to utilize more efforts on marketing to get your products in front of people that want to buy them, which can also be costly depending on the route you take.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
One of the best books I’ve read recently, in terms of scaling my business for profitability and doing it with ease, is called Chill & Prosper by Denise Duffield-Thomas. This book has been very valuable by helping me shift my money mindset, recognize my worth, and understand new ways to grow my business while creating new goals. I highly recommend it!
