We were lucky to catch up with Mesa Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.

Mesa , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

Floating in DFW consist of a group of friends who have been on the lake for years, both separate and together. We have celebrated some of our biggest milestones on the lake, our kids were raised on the lake, and we are a team you can trust. We are growing and hope to soon expand our business to lakes in other areas. We are not only business partners but also a family, any new partners go through a rigorous vetting process to ensure they are a good fit for the business as well as the family. We hold our values and our mission near and dear to our hearts and as we grow, we like to make sure whoever we partner with shares those same values. We offer our experiences at competitive rates, so it is accessible to all who are interested. There is no doubt in our mind that once you cruise with Floating in DFW, you will come back, and tell a friend. Word of mouth referrals are one of our top sources for bookings. There may be other companies out there offering the same product, but we are the only ones offering the Floating in DFW experience.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Floating in DFW is a boat charter and entertainment business that promotes life on the lake. Floating in DFW was created in 2015 when a group of friends had the vision of sharing our boating lifestyle and experiences with others. We realized how lucky we were to be able to spend our time relaxing and having fun on the water. It was a staycation, our getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and we loved it. We began to wonder why more people didn’t participate. We realized some of the misconceptions of boating prevented people from having the lake life experience, so we took the opportunity to introduce a worry free, personalized, boating experience to the public. We offer a one-of-a-kind experience. We have a fleet of boats to accommodate the lake lifestyle you desire on any given day. Our fleet consist of pontoons, fishing boats, jet boats for water sports, cuddy cabins, and a houseboat named Gloria Jean for your large parties. Floating in DFW does not stop at boat charters, we also offer RV rentals for tailgates, and camp site events. We often tie multiple boats together (aka tie ups) to create a private event space on the water available for business events, family reunions, dinners, birthday parties, and theme nights i.e., luau’s, glow parties, foam parties etc. We also have space to watch the sunrise and sunset, fish, meditate, yoga and other self-care needs. You name it, and we can make it happen.
Our packages provide a Captain and a Host to ensure the captain can focus on operating the vessel safely, and the Host is there to meet the needs of our passengers. All Floating in DFW staff are required to complete a state certified boat safety course, and our passengers of all ages are provided with life jackets. Our guests don’t worry about knowing how to drive a boat or navigate through a lake full of jet skis and other boaters. We do all the work so they can sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. We love to personalize the experience, at the time of booking we will always ask what type of experience you’re looking for and we love for you to share your favorite playlist with us so can have it ready when you board.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

Our Diversity and range of products stands out in our market, and we are the only minority owned lake lifestyle business in the area. We cater to all demographics and understand no 2 couples, groups or families are the same. Floating in DFW encourages you to bring your family, friends, business partners, and others aboard. We plug in your device and hit the water providing you with a top notch, unmatched experience exclusive to Floating in DFW. While some promote Miami style adult dance parties, we keep our events classy and family friendly. The response to the Floating in DFW brand has been nothing short of amazing and in 2020 we became Floating in DFW, LLC. We have mastered the art of boating and are able to bring the full lake life experience to our guests for a fraction of the cost of owning and operating a boat. We love what we do, and we are passionate about the experience you have and the memories you make. Our reputation is our pride and joy, and it has carried us a long way. Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

Any new start up business comes with its fair share of obstacles and Floating in DFW is no different. Building a business from the ground up has its challenges. We knew we had a great product but getting in front of the right crowds and marketing was a challenge. Marketing to consumers who are already familiar with boating is easy. However, we also want to market to the consumer who may not have thought about it or think it’s too much to take on. Floating in DFW is great for parties, retreats, couples, family reunions, spring break, water sports, a day of rest and relaxation on the water, and much more. We want to invite people into the beautiful world of lake life with ease. In order to do that we have to calm some of their fears, and sell a safe worry free, personalized boating experience. Covid was a challenging time, but we have bounced back and 2023 has been our most successful year to date. Our bookings have tripled, and we owe it all to finding our marketing niche with social media, repeat clientele, and referrals. We have built a healthy client base that is eager to spread the word about their experience.
