Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mervat Haddad. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mervat, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
As the owner of a bridal hair and makeup business right here in the DMV – serving beautiful brides across Northern Virginia, Maryland, and DC – we’ve really found our sweet spot with a style that resonates deeply with the majority of our brides: “effortless elegance” or “soft glam.” It’s become something of a signature vibe for us, and we absolutely love creating these looks!
Our focus is on enhancing each bride’s natural beauty. This means achieving radiant, healthy-looking skin, softly defined features, and romantic, touchable hair—think loose waves or textured updos complemented by face-framing pieces.
The idea that a polished, natural aesthetic is less complex than a full glam look is a common misunderstanding. In reality, creating a ‘lit-from-within’ radiance and ensuring soft, flowing wedding hairstyles maintain their shape and last all day often requires more skill and higher-quality products. It involves careful placement, seamless blending, and a nuanced understanding of how makeup and hair will perform in different lighting and over extended wear.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those new to Fleur Beauty, let me share a snippet of my journey and what makes us so special.
My journey into wedding hair and makeup wasn’t exactly a direct route, more like a winding path driven by my lifelong love for the beauty industry and wanting to help people feel amazing. Even as a kid, I was totally fascinated by how makeup could transform someone, and I spent tons of time just playing around and learning.
The idea for Fleur Beauty really took shape during the crazy time of COVID. Like a lot of people, I started thinking about what was really important to me, and I wanted to find a way to combine what I loved doing with something that felt meaningful. Seeing how isolated and uncertain things were then just made me realize even more how important it is to take care of yourself and feel good, even if celebrations looked different. Those little moments of beauty and self-expression felt extra special then.
I’ve been lucky enough to work with so many different women, and it’s so rewarding to help them feel beautiful again, especially those who might feel like they’ve lost their spark. As a cancer survivor, I really know how those experiences can affect your self-esteem and how much feeling good about yourself can lift your spirits and overall health.
I think what makes Fleur Beauty different is that we really focus on each person and genuinely care about them.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The most impactful way Fleur Beauty Studio grows is through the lovely referrals and reviews we get from our past clients. It’s so meaningful.
The wedding world in the DMV feels like a real community, and when our brides have a wonderful experience and feel truly seen and cared for by our team, it really resonates. They become our most enthusiastic supporters.
We’ve also connected with some amazing wedding professionals around here – talented photographers, planners who are so detail-oriented, and incredibly creative florists. It’s great to have those relationships.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Before the pandemic hit, I was your typical Type A personality, constantly on the go and pushing myself hard. But when everything slowed down, it made me realize I needed to change how I was living – to learn to take a breath and reset. It was a real wake-up call to focus on my well-being, my family, and finding a better balance. This change has allowed me to approach my work and life with more flexibility and a lot more understanding for others.
