We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meru Hunter McMahon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meru below.
Meru, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
For me being successful means not losing my passion in life and living a balanced life that provides fulfillment with a sense of peace and joy. The definition of success varies for everyone. I think being successful is the ability to move from challenge to challenge with grace as challenges help us grow.
To be successful also means taking consistent actions toward my goals, visions, and dreams. Knowing and understanding my true values in life and in business are essential in order to achieve what I define as success. Success also requires surrounding yourself with the right people, people who bring the best out of you and not the worst, people who genuinely cheer for you, and most importantly people who speak life into you and don’t try to bring you down with their own insecurities and negativity.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Meru, a Transformational Mentor, Best-Selling Author, Speaker, and Visionary helping others focus on ways to become balanced and fulfilled without feeling like they need more than they already have. I take pride in my core values in life: integrity, responsibility, and resilience.
I have been a Texas resident since 2006. I am a proud wife and mother of four kids. I enjoy traveling and appreciate how my traveling opportunities have shaped my perspective on the world.
My business “Your Savings Pro” was born out of passions that I have in my professional experience working for Supply Chain Management Organizations. Having held various positions in the past ranging from analytical to leading roles, I have most enjoyed working around process improvements, cost reductions, cost avoidance, profit improvements, and sourcing. My business has evolved as I have incorporated my personal life and cultural experiences.
Now, I have expanded my business by not only offering consulting to small businesses to improve their profit margins but also, providing mentoring to individuals who desire a balanced and fulfilled life. This has become more of my focus in the last year and I created a proprietary three-phase transformational process. Utilizing this process, I am able to help others simplify their life so they can find a holistic balance – a back-to-basics of what makes them happy and able to start living a fulfilled life. The goal is to go from “Owing to Owning Your Life” just like I am using this same process.
In today’s busy world, it is easy to feel unbalanced and unfulfilled. People may easily catch themselves thinking or saying “if I had this or when I do that, I will be happy”. I motivate others to turn their ifs and whens into NOW! It is time to be balanced and fulfilled in the PRESENT and stop waiting for the future.
My transformational process is a roadmap that can be applied to any challenging circumstances. Whether it is improving relationships, helping with money issues, uplifting your career, or even helpful to improve business challenges and profit. It was designed to help people at different stages and areas in life and business.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Pivoting is a natural part of life and one of my favorite things to do. However, sometimes it is intentional pivoting and sometimes it is unexpected pivoting. What I mean by unexpected is when life happens in a way we did not expect to happen. In 2016, unfortunately and unexpectedly, I lost the father of my children. Even though I loved my corporate job, I decided to stay home and focus on my children.
That pivoting came with a lot of fear and a lot of what-ifs: What if I can’t provide a good life for my kids financially? What if they get sick and I don’t have great health insurance coverage? What if staying home will kill my future career opportunities? And I faced many more what-ifs. It was not an easy decision to leave the career that I was so proud of achieving despite the struggles of being an immigrant.
I was comfortable with where I was at that time and getting into a future unknown world scared me. Through my journey, I learned that sometimes it is necessary and so important to pivot into different directions, to adapt to changes that help us find what we desire in our personal life, in business, and in our career. Everyone’s journey is unique so what works for some may not work for others. This is one of the reasons why I passionately love and enjoy mentoring others and seeing the breakthrough and transformations they experience.
I know how it feels to be alone and scared. I believe life is constantly pivoting and with the right process pivoting is easier than we think it is. It can make the journey less stressful as well.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I am originally from Kazakhstan and English is my self-taught third language. I was told that I probably would not be able to find a job that I desired in the USA, considering my Bachelor’s degree is from my home country. For that reason, it was less likely that anyone would be interested in hiring me. And in addition, I didn’t have any prior experience working in the USA.
I could have given up and said it is too hard, but instead I did a pivot. I hired a career coach and decided to persistently believe in myself. Therefore, I was able to find jobs that I desired. It took one hiring manager to take a chance on me and help get my career going. We meet many naysayers but remember, it usually takes only one person to change your life sometimes, as long as you put in an effort.
Even though I appreciate the support of others, I think my accomplishments are mainly the results of my own resilience – the desire to keep going even if I feel like giving up. Owning a business is not an easy journey. Personal life is not an easy journey at times. But I continue to practice resilience as challenges come my way, as they so often do in life and in business. My story is why I passionately believe in living a balanced life to enjoy a fulfilled life.
Resilience is the ability to enjoy good times while gracefully handling the bad times, creating that holistic (back-to-basics) balance in life. Everyone has resilience in them, they just must practice it and make it strong!
