We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mershele Brown a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Mershele thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is to serve the community as a educator you see first hand the needs of the community. Rather that be the need for housing or the need for resources I aim to provide my students and the community with the resources to help them get to their next level. The Conversation Peace is not only a book that you can find on Amazon and Barnes and Nobles but its a podcast where we have peaceful conversations from relationships, mental health to millionaire minds shifts we talk about it all. I think that this society has lost all social skills and need to get back to the table of conversation.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve been a stylist for 31yrs I’ve owned 4 salons and I’m a instructor. I have a passion for making people feel good inside and out I believe if you feel good you can live your best life. I have been doing two different talk shows for the last 15yrs The Antidote Show which is testimonies from trials to triumph to hear how people have overcome is a beautiful thing. We often wonder how will we overcome well the word of God says and I quote” we over come by the blood of the lamb and the words of our testimony” Only if people would share how they overcome drug abuse, illness, and defeat so many people would be set free. Is really not that hard we just need to open our mouth and allow others to feed off of our triumph’s. I believe the world would be a better place and people could avoid tragedies if they would just share their victories in life.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Since the pandemic I have had to pivot the cosmetology part of my journey to recruiting and consulting stylist and business owners. It has been very challenging because it seems like people don’t really want to work and business owners don’t want to take the necessary steps to better their business. The main thing is good customer service from the employee to the employer . I’ve found that some students not all are not ready for the industry that they have invested in so I have consulted them into sometimes into another field. I’ve found a lot of owners in this industry have no idea of how this business operates and they tend to get very frustrated with it when the revenue isn’t coming in. I’ve learned that I can provide them with the keys to a successful outcome.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I believe if I can first bring the resource’s to the community to help them better themselves by networking and peaceful conversations that we can see people get to a much better place in life. That is my goal to see people overcome and live their best lives.
