We recently connected with Merrika Carter and have shared our conversation below.

Merrika, appreciate you joining us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?

Hi all my names Merrika I am now 33 years old going back 5 years ago now I was incarcerated. I had never been in trouble with the police before so by many I was told I wouldn’t go to prison due to my history and being a mother to my son who at the time would of been 8 years old .

The offence I was charged with alot of the omu officers within the prison said it was harsh however I never wanted to blame anyone or anything for what happened as I am a big believer that what is ment to be will be and your path is already set out for you.

My offence was section 18 I did just under 2years before being released being incarcerated really made me think about my life and really focus on myself.

I had alot going on before I went to prison with my relationship and just family life so I really had time to think clearly.

Being away from my son was the hardest thing we didn’t tell him I was in prison at the time we said I was in the army which little did I know this had my son more worried because he thought I would die.

My time in prison I spent alot of it reflecting and living in the gym I lived training and to todays date I train daily infact that is my business now for 3 years Meekz Physiques.

Meekz Physiques started in 2020 helping women not just physically but mentally to help them to build confidence within themselves to become the best version of them. I started teaching online this was with a client of mine called kira who was a size 20/22 kira made amazing results during her training with me and within the year she was a size 10 and to todays date has remained committed to her online training.

My business has built up greatly in the years considering we had lock down etc so I am truly grateful I aim to have my own gym eventually and have my gym for ladies who come out of prison to work and built themselves back up like I did.

This is just a little of my story broken down to give you an idea

Merrika, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My names merrika Louise Carter I am 33 years old I am a single mother to my son who is now 14 years old my son is an illustrator and over the past few years I as his mother have helped him with his passion and now he is on his 3rd book for an Author

I have always been disciplined with time and what I realised when being released from prison when I was working for a company called the Fragrance Shop in Birmingham was that if I can open up someone else’s business every morning I can make my own and that’s what I set out to do.

My motivation comes from having the drive that no matter what we must be grateful for what we have not what we want and if we want something we must work for it.

I love helping others expecially with my own experience of life and sharing my passion of working out and hopefully install it in others who want that changed mindset.

I am most proud of who iam today I wake up at 4am daily 5 days a week I work hard for me and my son but I love my job my Job doesn’t feel like work I’ve met some amazing people also who I train.

What sets me apart from others is I am not looking for anyone to believe in me and what I want I truly believe in myself and with God and my loved ones I will achieve everything I set out to do

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?

Yes I would choose my profession i believe I am in a strong mindset for it going back many years ago I wouldn’t of said the same thing.

Being a personal trainer really is more than what meets the eye you become that persons coach /mentor

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

Showing my consistency I have alot of people who contact me and ask me how do I do it everyday 4am daily.

Being passionate about what i do also helps with the growth of my business I believe in my brand which is me ;)

Advertising my business and also the people I have met and have taught so far have helped grow my business word of mouth is a powerful thing.
