We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meredith Marx. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meredith below.
Meredith, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I manage all of my social media accounts. It’s important for me to have control over what content I want out there that relates to my business and shows. Plus I enjoy the direct communication with my listeners, it makes me feel more connected.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been a radio/TV personality along the east coast for over 23 years. in 2017 I launched my podcast Backstage Pass with Meredith Marx where I interview globally know musicians. It has become more YouTube focused now. I give the viewer a glimpse of life on the road! In January of 2020, I launched a radio show called The Yacht Club. Throughout the pandemic, the show provided a source of comfort to the listeners who were struggling with lock down. It was an escape, a way to forget the current state of the world and disappear back to simpler times. The show now has dedicated listeners who actually schedule their Sundays around the show and in it’s 3 year sail across 2 radio stations in Maryland, The Yacht Club has gained the attention of listeners nationwide. Now the focus has shifted to make this show accessible Nationwide through syndication which will happen throughout the rest of 2023.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The listeners and clients! I absolutely love my listeners! They are so dedicated, loyal and fun! What started as a smaller radio show on WTMD in 2020, has now blossomed to have dedicated listeners in Alaska, Arizona, Wyoming, Florida and more. People continue to reach out and get excited for discovering this show.
I always say it’s “OUR SHOW”, a show that WE can enjoy together. Including listeners and clients on this journey has been incredibly healthy and beautiful because people feel connected, feel a part of this sail and it really helps people’s mental well being.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had this show on WTMD in Towson, Maryland. in Spring of 2022, I had some issues regarding management, merging of stations and fair pay. My needs weren’t being met and so I decided to take a deep breath and walk away from a wonderful station, great co-workers and I took my show with me. It was the best decision I ever made. It allowed me to dock at another station, WNAV in Annapolis where I went from a 2 hour show, to a 3 hour show. I was able to give my listeners MORE!! That was important to me. I was also able to create merchandise and that made many listeners happy. People had been asking me for t-shirts for a long time and I was finally able to do it. Now, I am moving The Yacht another time to continue to build it. Growth for this show matters a lot to me. I want more people on board to enjoy what my dedicated listeners get to every Sunday!
