We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meredith Comfort. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meredith below.
Meredith, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Yes, I do earn a full-time living from photography, and it is something I am very proud of! I started doing the photography on the side during the recession around 2010 to make ends meet. I discovered that it was my passion and my dream of working only as a photographer was born. My husband and I started it together shooting weddings in the beginning. The wedding clients came back over the years for family photos and baby photos, and it slowly grew from there. A major milestone in the process would be having our first kiddo, Finley, who is now ten. She became my own little muse and test subject for many photo ideas and locations. And when we had our second and third girls I gained quite a bit of understanding of how to work with children. This change in my life allowed me to marry my passion for photography with the joy and fun of capturing little ones smiles.
Meredith, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I capture special memories you will treasure forever! From weddings, to maternity portraits, newborns, graduation sessions, and family sessions, I provide beautiful images for each new exciting phase in your life. My photography features a bright, clean look with an emphasis on the love and emotion of the moment. I have had many clients rave about my ability to put all at ease and make it fun!
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth is without a doubt the best and most consistent way to get new clients! I have shot for so many wonderful people that show their photos and then give my name to their friends. I have the best clients anyone could ask for and they are why my business is successful now!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative?
I like to think about how some of these photos that I take will hang in someone’s house and bring them daily joy to see their smiling family’s faces or a precious moment. And in 10-20 years, they will see the happy memory and wonder how the time goes by so fast.
And then in 20-30 years it could be shown to their grandchildren as part of their history.
This is my own little legacy, knowing that I will help with the handing down of memories and family history.
