Mercy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My name is Mercy Otu, I was born and raised in Nigeria precisely Akwa Ibom state. I moved to the United States over a decade ago. As a young child, I have always wanted to give back to my community. In May of 2021, I was crowned the Miss Akwa Ibom U.S.A, I traveled back to Nigeria to host my very first talent show event which is now known as MercyCareAct For All.
MercyCareeAct For All was established with a passion for empowering young talent in Akwa Ibom State, we aim to uplift and inspire the emerging stars of tomorrow. Our journey began with the vision to provide a platform for young individuals to showcase their diverse talents in music, dance, acting, and more. Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I started MercyCareAct For All with the sole purpose of giving the youths in the community a platform to express their talent. I believe what sets us apart from other Talent Show organizations is that our goals transcend simply crowning winners. We aspire to nurture and support the blossoming talents, enabling them to transform their God-given abilities into sustainable livelihoods. We believe in the power of community and cultural expression, emphasizing that the journey is just as important as the destination.
I am most proud of the fact that we have hosted two successful talent shows over the years and our goal is to continue to give a platform to the people in our community every year.
For us to provide the platform every year we depend on donations and the community’s support to make the show a reality.
Our motto is every little thing counts.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I am a firm believer in the saying fake it till you make it. I was unable to host MercyCareAct For All event in 2023 because I was unemployed but that did not stop me from actively making preparations for the show. I believe that although I skipped a year, I will surely come back in 2024. To God be the glory I was offered a job opportunity in January 2024 and in May 2024 I hosted the show.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I met my business partner during my preparations for the show. Mr Raymond who was my graphic designer designed majority of the graphics for the show. I noticed that apart from the monetary value he added value by going the extra mile by making sure that I was satisfied with his work and looking out for the brand as well. I developed an interest in knowing more about him, and from there I then realized that he also has a deep passion for giving back. I asked if he would like to be part of the brand and he accepted since then we have been working together.
