We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mercy Aremu a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mercy, appreciate you joining us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?

For Instance, we would like to give a shout-out to our community outreach coordinator Theophilus James and Rebecca Weiner.
Meet: Rebecca Weiner: Community Outreach Coordinator
I am currently a Master of Public Health student with a concentration in Community Health at CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy. I have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Health Studies as well. My internships and volunteering experiences in several nonprofit organizations have strengthened my passion for health equity and chronic disease prevention. Over the past year I have assisted adults living with Alzheimer’s disease with their mental health. I have also been working with an organization to advocate for chronic disease patients, assisting them with navigating their health care, and working to improve health policy issues related to chronic disease on a local, state, and national level. I aspire to improve the health and well-being among communities, while addressing health disparities.
Theophilus James, Represent the next generation of philanthropic leaders. Theophilus is the community outreach assistant and is currently a high-school student. Theo became passionate about raising awareness of disease preventive nutrition services after a series of family and friends’ health experiences. He is a passionate advocate for improved healthcare in rural and Indigenous communities. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, guitar, computer science/engineering coding, and spending time with friends and family.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
“When I was in high school, I was awarded the presidential award for exceptional community services. Graduating from college, I was the only student awarded “The Make a Difference Award” for community services. I personally can testify that volunteering provides an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and families struggling with health-related issues. Furthermore, volunteering promotes a culture of gratitude, connection and compassion, encouraging individuals to appreciate the blessings in their own lives while extending a helping hand to those in need.”
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As I reflect on my past journey through nutrition and illness, I realize how profoundly it has shaped my perspective on life and instilled in me a deep sense of compassion and empathy for others facing challenges. My personal experience with disease has inspired and provided me with wisdom, to give back to others in meaningful ways. By offering a comforting presence and words of encouragement, I hope to bring a sense of hope and strength to those who are navigating their own health journey.
In conclusion, volunteering at Healing Favor Nutrition Inc. is a rewarding experience that offers numerous benefits for clients, volunteers, and the community at large. By dedicating energy and time to support the organization’s mission, our volunteers contribute to the promotion of health, well-being, while also cultivating valuable skills and fostering personal growth. Ultimately, volunteering at Healing Favor Nutrition Inc. embodies the spirit of generosity, compassion, and solidarity that lies at the heart of building a healthier, more equitable society for all.
