We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mercury Moon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mercury below.
Mercury, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I’d have to say, my project “braille”. It was the first piece of work I had released since reinventing myself creatively and sonically! I got to collab with a lot of my contemporaries. I feel like the songs are more meaningful/confident. I had a pretty good rollout with videos and shows.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Mercury Moon. I’m a hip hop artist from Erie, PA.
I fell in love with music at six.
I started writing raps at ten.
Recorded my first verse/feature at twelve.
Started taking creating songs seriously at nineteen.
I try my best to release a project yearly.
I’m just a communicator and messenger of emotions. I use my love for music and songwriting to execute ideas.
I’m an advocate for freedom, creativity, and individuality. Everyone is comfortable with being common. I like to push the envelope!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I’ve always felt like this was one of my purposes in life. I was given this gift for a reason. Like God blessed me with the force and was like, “Now go be a Jedi”. Someday I’d like to make a living and feed my family off of my creative endeavors. I absolutely love being creative! That’s what ultimately keeps me going. Passion!
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Non-creatives don’t get the obsession. They don’t get obsessing over a creation. They don’t get the time and effort that goes into putting something together and, In the end hoping you like it and everyone else does too. They don’t know the fear of having their ideas rejected or, feeling the love from someone who your creation touched. They don’t get the sacrifices that are made. They don’t get the resilience, determination, and grit it takes to keep going, when you feel like you’re out of your mind.
