We were lucky to catch up with Mercedes Mansilla recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mercedes, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
When I was young, my mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and ideas. Going on and about 30 years of my life with undiagnosed ADHD meant I struggled to understand human interactions. I was always “socially awkward” and a bit “eccentric”, so I dove headfirst into behavioral psychology and neuroscience, longing to decode the intricacies of the human psyche and the “secret” that somehow neurotypicals knew and my neurodivergent brain didn’t. It just so happened that, unsurprisingly, I became really good with sales and communication. Having studied to become a translator and always being a bookwarm who loved reading everything from novels to non-fiction, my childhood (and ever-lasting) passion for writing led me to copywriting and marketing, and eventually ghostwriting too…
Life threw in additional –yet again, undiagnosed– challenges: Hashimoto’s, PCOS, and chronic dermatitis, coupled with a constant battle for body confidence after years of bullying in primary school. These struggles steered me toward fitness, wellness, nutrition, and hormonal balance. I wanted to change my body so much that I would spend hours on end listening to podcasts, and reading books and papers on a myriad of topics that would eventually lead me there: From fitness, strength training, and nutrition to hormonal imbalances and even MORE psychology to finally train my ADHD brain to be disciplined and follow through. I hit my head against a wall several times until I finally got my diagnosis and from then, life became so much easier. Each challenge deepened my understanding and ignited my mission to help others navigate their own storms.
And then it hit me, my mission was helping my past self find the right people to work with; coaches, trainers, therapists, lifestyle choices, and supplements… So my mission is to empower others struggling with their mental or physical health was born out of my own need to help me. To be the link between those who can help but can’t market themselves and the people like me who so desperately need them. How? Through carefully planned marketing strategies for growth, solid copy that’s relatable and authentic storytelling, blending my personal journey with professional expertise to create impactful, relatable content. It’s not just about marketing; it’s about making a genuine difference in people’s lives.

Mercedes, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Life threw in additional –yet again, undiagnosed– challenges: Hashimoto’s, PCOS, and chronic dermatitis, coupled with a constant battle for body confidence after years of bullying in school. These struggles pushed me toward fitness, wellness, nutrition, and learning all I could about hormones to deal with my own. I wanted to change my body so much that I would spend hours on end listening to podcasts, reading books and papers on a myriad of topics that would eventually lead me there: From fitness, strength training, and nutrition to hormonal imbalances and even MORE psychology to finally train my ADHD brain to be disciplined and follow through.
I hit my head against a wall several times until I finally got my diagnosis and from then, life became so much easier. So, one could make the case that each challenge deepened my understanding and ignited my mission to help others navigate their own struggles.
And then it hit me, my mission was helping my past self find the right people to work with; coaches, trainers, therapists, lifestyle choices, supplements, you name it… So my mission is to empower others struggling with their mental or physical health, spurred out of my own need to help myself.
Ultimately, I want to be the link between those who can help others but can’t market themselves and the people like me who so desperately need them. How? Through carefully planned marketing strategies for growth, solid copy that’s relatable and authentic storytelling, blending my personal journey with professional expertise to create impactful, relatable content. Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think what helped me build my reputation in the market is my genuine relatability and deep understanding of my clients’ needs. I’ve navigated hormonal issues, body confidence struggles, weight fluctuations, hormonal acne, and so much more, I now know firsthand what my clients’ target audience is going through. Essentially, I am their customer avatar. This personal experience, combined with my marketing expertise, allows me to craft impactful, resonant content. Clients trust me because I’ve been in their clients’ shoes and know how to communicate their unique stories effectively. Also, social proof and over 380 5-star reviews and killer testimonials help a ton!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Absolutely. There was a pivotal moment in my career when I transitioned from being solely a ghostwriter and copywriter to becoming a funnel strategist. Initially, my focus was on crafting engaging and impactful content. But, as I delved deeper into the marketing world, I discovered a new passion: the strategy behind the creative work. As someone who’s a bit obsessed with psychology and MBTI – being an INTJ, I realized I was missing the strategist part; which is basically the core of my personality type.
This shift happened when I realized that great content alone is not enough; a winner sales pages, ad, or email flow NEEDS a carefully planned strategic framework to truly drive results. That’s when I started learning about funnels and their crucial role, especially for service-based businesses and coaches. I found that by planning and strategizing effective funnels, I could help my clients not only attract leads, but also convert and turn the occasional scroller into a raving fan.
Understanding the customer journey and creating tailored strategies to guide them through each stage became my new obsession. It was like unlocking a whole new level in a game I already loved. This pivot allowed me to offer a more comprehensive service, blending creativity with strategy, and ultimately delivering greater value to my clients.
