We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meoshuh Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meoshuh below.
Meoshuh, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
While I am called to do many things, I am certain that one of those things is to create a safe space for people to become even better versions of themselves. In my own small way, I am called to serve as a catalyst to individuals recognizing their unique greatness, finding their voice and harnessing it to live out purpose and leave their mark on the world. With this being said, I am a true advocate at heart and this can be consistently seen and felt in how I do all of the work that I do.
Meoshuh, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Meoshuh Jackson. Born and raised in Chicago, but currently based in the Metro Atlanta area. I am currently an image consultant and podcast host. I will start off talking about my journey into the world of image consulting. I have always loved fashion and dressing well, however it was never something that I wanted to do professionally. I didn’t think that I would fashion styling challenging enough, so despite others encouraging me to go into styling, I simply wasn’t interested. I can’t exactly remember how I became aware of the field of image consulting, but once I did, it piqued my interest. I liked the fact that in image consulting, there was a greater emphasis being placed on wardrobe being used as a tool for storytelling. That it was more about using fashion to help someone showcase their personal brand in such a way that helped them to reach a desired end. Whether that end was getting a promotion, landing a new job etc. I liked that image consulting allowed the consultant to choose a lane of of focus, such as image consulting for corporate professionals for example, as opposed to general styling. While general styling is great, I knew that I was the type who would thrive better if I had a specific focus. Eventually, I went on to become certified as an image and personal branding consultant with a focus on professional women who were looking to refine their image/appearance in order to go to the next level in their career and business. Shortly after becoming certified, I launched my consultancy, Style 73 Image and Personal Branding Consulting. The work has been very rewarding. Watching these women transform right before my eyes as they acquire a new found confidence and learn how to look, and ultimately feel, their best is priceless.
My journey into podcasting is vastly different than that of image consulting. Podcasting is advocacy work for me. I am a true believer that adversity is often the birthing floor for purpose. In 2020, not only were we in the middle of a gruesome pandemic, but also caught in the crossfires of a social justice movement that was unlike anything most of us had ever experienced in our lifetime. As an African-American woman, watching the unlawful and heinous killing of George Floyd that was caught on video and all of the social unrest that ensued, was a lot to take in mentally. I just kept asking myself, “what can I do to help?” “In what way am I called to make a difference?” We’re not all called to do the same thing, but we are all called to show up in some type of way. Every time I asked myself those questions, my attention would be turned towards the youth and how they needed to be equipped and educated on how to one day make the world look better than it does now. That means they need to understand law and politics, finances, the value of community service and civic engagement, self-love, intercultural awareness, health and wellness, etc. They need to learn all the things many of us didn’t learn in school but should have. With this revelation, Village Vibes Only Podcast with Meoshuh Jackson was born. On this podcast, I bring the “village” together to highlight important topics that children and teens should know and learn about so that they are equipped to be future leaders for themselves and ultimately the world.
After the launch of my Village Vibes Only Podcast, and with the emphasis being on children and teens, I recognized a pull that I had to be a resource to the family unit as a whole. I am on a mission to help strengthen the family unit because strong families make strong communities. Strong communities make strong nations. My husband and I launched The Jackson Joint Podcast in 2021 to discuss topics pertinent to marriage and families for the purpose of procuring generational wholeness within the family unit. The more whole we are as parents the better chance we have at raising whole children. The conversations are real, raw and honest, but the vibe is positive and uplifting. We’re all learning together! We have a great time over at Village Vibes Only and The Jackson Joint so be sure to join in and share in the good vibes while being enlightened at the same time! I am proud of how God has allowed me to create these platforms to help usher in the change I want to see in the world!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth has undoubtedly been the best source of new clients for me! I put a lot of genuine effort into the client experience as I want each of them to feel special. I find that doing that, along with delivering the desired result for the client, increases brand loyalty and the likelihood that they will refer others to you.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn perfectionism! In the beginning, I thought that everything needed to be perfect before I could execute. That would cost me so much time, unnecessary money and mental torture! I found that it made me more unproductive and unhappy in the end. Once I let go of perfectionism and trusted the process, and, most importantly, trusted myself enough to know that I would never say yes to something that I know I couldn’t do or make myself look bad, I was able to breathe and really execute.
