We were lucky to catch up with Memphis The band recently and have shared our conversation below.
Memphis, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Our biggest risk, you could say, is to have made such a long trip, so far away from home with the intention of forming a band and to have bet on rock music.
Memphis, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a child you always imagine it differently, you see the musician, the star and you never imagine the long and hard process that has been behind it. When you start everything is easy, you pick up the guitar, you meet a friend and play, it’s easy, you have fun. Little by little you enter an unknown world and the more you discover it, the more you realize how little you know. But here we are, fighting day by day to grow and make better and better music. We are proud of it, of still being here.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
When creating anything, one hopes to be able to share it. Playing live in front of 600 people and that some of them sing with you songs that you have written, that someone transmits you how meaningful one of your lyrics has been… all that is magical and beautiful, it motivates you to move forward.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
We are fully aware of the risky leap that seems to leave your life behind to launch yourself into an adventure where nothing is guaranteed. Our family, our friends… everyone has come to think at some point how risky it was, but they have supported us from the first moment, valuing our work. When you arrive at a concert you only see the artists on stage, playing, having fun. But you don’t normally appreciate all the work behind it, hours of rehearsal, hours of work to get all the material, sound technicians, lighting, merchandising, security, all the backstage equipment…. We are always more than we appear to be. A big family
