Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Melrow Combs. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Melrow, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Hello, we are Lgendary and with are 3 members, David, Augustus and Melo, we had the same passion for creation and for fashion. Lgendary, the name, came about because we know with our favorite brands it’s a feeling you get when you wear certain brands and Lgendary was a feeling we wanted our consumers to feel. The name Lgendary also aligns with black culture, because with all Lgendary figures, most of them are included in black culture. We trusted each other’s vision and knew with the passion and creativity of each other we can create something the world needs. With that we then started finding our niche of how we want to enter the market. We started with Dad hats but wanted to add a spin on to how the garment looked with a distressed look and with different colors. While following the trend of a dad hat, the design still challenged the status quo and finding a challenge with doing different designs excites us. The biggest hurdle is how to start selling and having customer retention and the biggest way we got over that hump was collaboration with events. Getting exposure and being people’s face as much as possible is how we generated business online orders.
Melrow, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Our members here at Lgendary all come from different backgrounds such as Liberian, Tanzanian and Jamaican. Creating is something we love doing in our free time and fashion is what brought us together as it was the main focus in our brotherhood. We provide a wide range of clothing products and manufacturing services. We believe our products and marketing content are original in our local community. Our business has a strong foundation based on determination, we’re proud of our consistency and we plan on continuing to grow. We are also community driven and strive to do our part in our village by inspiring our youth, using our platform to volunteer and sponsor events. So far we have been a part of local events that embodied aspects of encouraging Black health, money and history, and we are proud of what our brand stands for.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
With our collaborations we have been able to network with many consumers form different backgrounds. WIth each opportunity we have been able to diversify our clientele. We have utilized our mailing lists to communicate to customers, we have also taken advantage of the use of social media by having interactive content and growing our following more.
Due to social media we have received effective feedback on our designs, opportunities, and customer service. That is how we have made our business strategy more productive as we are able to study the market and trends.
The use of social media have been successful with us keeping customer clientele and reaching new markets, as we are an online based store.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
We all were roommates at one point, as we started out going to St. Cloud State University together.
Sharing some of the same classes, such as Macroeconomics, made us think of business operations and how we would conduct business on our own just in case we didn’t pass. But we are all scholars now and have a successful business!
