We were lucky to catch up with Melody Zenith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Melody , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
For me, there was never really a question regarding who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do. While my actual identity shifted, the goal remained the same. I knew I wanted to make music from a young age, possibly because of my dad’s influence (He, himself was a fairly successful musician) and possibly just because it was always in my blood and always on my mind. I didn’t immediately plunge into the world of becoming a professional musician or anything, but I was always writing songs and dreaming of playing on stages.

Melody , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Melody Zenith, and I am a singer, songwriter and producer who primarily makes pop music inspired by darkwave. post punk and alternative music. I try to take timeless sounds from the past and create something new and modern. I like to draw inspiration from a variety of genres, but the music tends to attract the most attention from fans of those darker subgenres I mentioned. I’m originally from Saint Paul, Minnesota and come from a background of music, with my late father being a primary inspiration for me and my first music teacher. I’m a DIY artist, oftentimes making my own music videos, styling my own photoshoots etc. I like to connect with my audience most through Patreon, where I share intimate blogs, photos, and secret demos/songs. You can check that out at https://www.patreon.com/melodyzenith if you want to get to know me in depth!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the idea that I will only be happy when I reach a certain goal. It’s cliche, but it’s really about the journey. Sometimes you reach goals you set for yourself, and you realize it doesn’t exactly feel how you imagined it, because you realize the problem isn’t the outside, the problem is inside of you.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I have plenty of goals, with the main goal being trying to get my music out to as many people as possible. However, my mission is to connect in some way with everyone who listens to my music. Music is really spiritual, it’s a very ritualistic experience. It’s literal magic in every sense! It’s something invisible that impacts your feelings, and I do believe in my heart that artists have a mission on this planet. I make music primarily for myself, but also I feel there’s a higher purpose.
