We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Melody Pourmoradi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Melody , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
When I first conceived The GiRLiFE Academy, I felt like I was embarking on a journey filled with uncertainties and risks. It was a business model that had never been tried before, and I had no idea if it would fly or not. But I was driven by a deep desire to make a positive impact, to create a program where women could learn how to empower girls using a curriculum that I had created.
It was a daunting task, and at times, fear would rear its ugly head, tempting me to play it safe and stick to the familiar. But the yearning in my heart to create something special was stronger than my fears. So, I mustered up my courage, put my foot on the gas pedal, and went for it with all my heart.
And it was worth it! Looking back now, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude. Over 200 students have graduated from The GiRLiFE Academy, and each one of them has gone on to introduce countless girls to their superpowers. To know that I have played a small part in this journey of empowerment fills me with deep joy and satisfaction.
Taking risks is never easy, but when you are driven by a sense of purpose, the fear of failure takes a backseat. The journey may be bumpy, and the road may be rocky, but when you keep your eyes on the prize, you can achieve anything you set your heart on. And for me, The GiRLiFE Academy has been nothing short of a dream come true.
Melody , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
GiRLiFE is not just a business for me; it’s a calling, a mission, a purpose that is rooted deep within my soul. It all started with my own personal journey of pain, confusion, and self-doubt. Growing up, I was constantly plagued by unexplainable stomach aches that would make me feel physically sick. My parents took me to countless specialists, but no one could figure out what was wrong with me.
It wasn’t until I was in my late teens that I finally realized that the root cause of my pain was not physical but emotional. I was so consumed with worrying about what others thought of me that I had lost touch with my own identity. I didn’t know who I was or what my purpose in life was. I was desperately seeking validation from outside sources, and it was making me physically ill.
But as I began to learn how to love and accept myself for who I am, I realized that this journey was not just for me. It was a gift, a calling, that I needed to share with others. And that’s when the seed for GiRLiFE was planted in my heart.
My vision was simple yet profound: to introduce young girls to their superpowers from a young age so that they could learn to love, honor, and respect themselves first. And as I began to share my message with others, I was amazed by the response. Heart-centered women who shared my passion for empowerment began to flock to me, eager to learn how they too could turn their love for empowerment into a profitable business as girls empowerment coaches.
It has been an incredible journey to watch these women grow and evolve into visionary female entrepreneurs, spreading the message of self-love and empowerment to the next generation. For me, GiRLiFE is not just a business; it’s a way of life. It’s a reminder that we all have the power within us to overcome our fears and self-doubt and become the best version of ourselves. And that, to me, is the most fulfilling and rewarding journey of all.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
As an entrepreneur, I’ve learned that authenticity is everything. It’s what sets you apart from the competition, what builds trust with your audience, and what ultimately leads to success. And for me, authenticity is not just a buzzword or a marketing tactic; it’s a way of life.
I believe that my ability to show up fully and authentically is what has helped me to build a reputation in my market. When people engage with my brand, they know exactly what they’re getting – someone who is honest, passionate, and at times, a little bit fierce in her views.
But being authentic isn’t always easy. It means being vulnerable, putting yourself out there, and sometimes even risking rejection or criticism. It means showing up with your full heart and being unapologetic about who you are and what you stand for.
And yet, I truly believe that it’s worth it. When I create content for my students social media audiences or even in my books, I do it with my whole heart. I pour my passion and my energy into every word, every image, every idea. And I think that people can feel that. They can feel the authenticity and the sincerity behind my message.
I’m not afraid to be bold, to take risks, or to be a little bit unconventional. Because at the end of the day, my goal is not just to sell a product or a service – it’s to make a real impact in the lives of the women and girls that I serve.. And I know that I can only do that if I show up as my true, authentic self.
It’s all just a reflection of my passion and my commitment to making a difference. And for the people that I have the great pleasure of serving, I hope that my authenticity shines through and inspires them to be their own true selves, too.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Growing up as a girl, I was constantly taught to be a “good girl.” My interpretation of this request meant keeping quiet, not causing any trouble, and only speaking when spoken to. But I’ve come to realize that this mentality has held me back in so many ways. It’s prevented me from taking risks and pursuing my dreams with boldness and confidence.
When I founded GiRLiFE, my mission was clear: to empower girls to use their voices and to be the most authentic expression of themselves. But in order to do that, I had to first unlearn the idea of being a “good girl.” I had to shed the fear of imperfection and the need for external validation.
This journey of unlearning has been transformative for me. I no longer hold myself back from taking action on my ideas, and I’m not afraid to pave my own way in the world of entrepreneurship. I’ve embraced the idea of being a powerful girl instead of a “good girl,” and it’s made all the difference.
I want to pass this same empowering message on to the women and girls I work with. I want them to know that it’s okay to be bold and to take risks. It’s okay to make mistakes and to learn from them. And most importantly, it’s okay to be themselves, even if it means breaking the mold of what society expects from them.
It’s so clarifying when we can unlearn patterns that have kept us stuck and small and relearn a more empowering, heart-centered way of existing in the world.
