Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Melody Godspower. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Melody, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I have always wanted to be in the artistic world but I never guessed in will be the path I am currently on. As a graduate of software Engineering, I think it’s safe to say choosing a musical career or running a business in fashion and writing ,was a very high risk to take especially when you have no idea how far it could take to get to where I need to be.
Melody, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am originally from Nigeria and moved to Vietnam to study software engineering before coming to the states to live with my family. I have always been involved it arts one way or another so I guess it was only natural I would take this path in life. I started modelling in Nigeria and continued in Vietnam, but music was never on my list really until my last few months in Vietnam. I started working on music in 2020 and haven’t looked back since then. I have been fortunateto put out my first album titled’ Journey’ out everywhere and i am gearing up to put out more projects this year. I also had a love for fashion. African fashion to be precise, but being in Vietnam and broke taught me how to pull stuff together for myself when it came to that. I started to learn more about making my own clothes and now I have a business where I sell fashion accessories made in the Nigerian way. I started Meladirè in 2022 in my living room and I use a fabric processing style called Adirè to design the fabrics. I also make jewelry for sale and its all hand made and hand dyed, but I wear my piece with so much pride and can’t wait for everyone to see what Meladirè is all about. The kind of person I am is someone who just has so much love for creativity in whatever form. After being here for a few years I got inspired to write a children’s book ,because i felt thatevery kid deserves a chance to dream amd work on their purpose in life. The book titled ‘The boy with a purpose is something so dear to my heart and I just love when I see kids reading it’ it makes me happy knowing that they also have a chance to dream like I did regardless of their situation and with proper guidance. I believe what sets me apart is drive and goal. Everyone has what drives them and inspires them, but for me it’s always been my family and God. I want to be able to put a smile and their faces and also spread the word of God through my actions and career. There is nothing more joyful than seeing my work making others feel hopeful.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to put out what I love and I’m passionate about has I watch how it impacts other people’s lives.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I believe what society can do best is become open to individuals who are doing more independently and be as welcoming as possible to what they have to offer. I think if we can be open to that, we can create a space where so much creativity can florish.
