We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Melodee Pryce a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Melodee, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When they say representation matters I absolutely identify with that. I always knew I could sing, my family sings, I sang in church, but it wasn’t until I saw Lauryn Hill that I knew that’s what I wanted to do that’s what I wanted to be. I think I was maybe 10 at the time

Melodee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I always knew I could sing, but I was also a very good athlete. When I was young growing up with immigrant parents there was a certain track that you follow. After high school, you go to college it’s the way no discussion. I knew my ticket in was sports. After I graduated it was my turn to pursue what I actually cared about. If it were up to me I wouldn’t have gone. I took a job with an agency overseas in South East Asia and I toured as a singer for about 4yrs and then I went freelance musician for the last 5yrs and I traveled in this career to not only Asia, but Africa, Europe, the Caribbean South America. I went everywhere. The first time I sang onstage as a professional singer I was in love, I knew that’s what I’m supposed to be doing no question. I believe what sets me apart is my energy. It’s boundless onstage I want everyone to feel me I want them to feel part of the show. I don’t just sing I entertain, it’s not just my show…everyone is apart of it!
The biggest hardship has been the pandemic, it halted everything. However, from that I was able to write my EP which I’m most proud of!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding is when people compliment my stage presence and energy. It’s something I take very serious and worked to cultivate in my early years. To have it complimented means my hard work and dedication is evident.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal and mission is to have a stadium singing my original songs back to me! That’s what I want more than anything! :)
