We were lucky to catch up with Me’Lo The Generation Hero recently and have shared our conversation below.
Me’Lo The, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My most meaningful project is “Elevation” The EP. This 6 track story encourages listeners to remain positive, empowered, and encouraged through life challenges. The circumstances at the time were poverty, dysfunction, and low vibration. Refusing to become a product of my environment, I stepped out on faith to record 2 tracks in a program called youth media located inside the Harold Washington Library Chicago. I didn’t understand the music industry at all but I was determined to become an independent artist. Just before the global pandemic “covid-19”, I invested in an artist development forum, surrounding myself with like-minded independent artists who were willing to grow together and utilize the information that we were being educated on. I then graduated from an artist development boot camp called “Emcee Skool”. I learned the importance of serving your communities, becoming a better performer, and writing skills. I finally finished an accomplishment. I never graduated from 8th grade, high school, or college My 6 songs were complete, and each track was mixed & mastered, and ready to be distributed. It felt amazing to walk across the stage pursuing the passion that I love the most. I took 3 old tracks revised and edited them and 3 new tracks and sauced them up. I hope this project encourages listeners to look at their past failures as an opportunity to learn and recycle painful events for more purposeful inspiration. Growing is a part of life. “Elevation” is a choice. Nothing in your life you have gone through will go to waste. God will use it for his glory if you allow Him to. Be Blessed Remain in “Elevation” Mode ALWAYS – TGH

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Me’Lo is an acronym for Manifesting Elevation Loving Optimistically. My dad taught me how to rap at the age of four years old. After his incarceration, I joined the local open mic scene. This community allowed me to articulate feelings about current events around the world, being an African American woman and an advocate for LGBTQ homeless teens./ I offer 3 services; composing and performing original music, event planning, and personal chef/catering services. Music is my life. When people think of rap in today’s era they think of trap or drill. I offer diverse cadences with lyrical harmonies that releases peace while encouraging listeners to strike up conversations that are wholesome, healthy, and productive. Listeners can party, study, or take a road trip to any of the projects created by myself. Me’Lo The Generation Hero Productionz LLC started an event planning service because there was a financial lack in the local music scene. We curate free showcases that compensate feature artists. This creates opportunities to collaborate with other artists and a platform to exercise your talents. I am a chef by trade and I offer a personal chef service for many clients who are struggling with low self-esteem, depression, mental illnesses, diabetes, hypertension, lupus, and more. We even go above and beyond to serve our clients in the culinary industry by bringing nightlife and entertainment to their homes. You can trust Me’Lo to empower you through motivational speaking, poetry, and energetic performances, or to serve you in the comfort of your home with a live jazz band while teaching clients how to fight against infirmities and illnesses.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative artist is connecting to a crowd or community. There’s no point in making an invention if consumers don’t buy it for good use. For me, it’s not about riches, or “the clout” ya know? It’s about conversation and sharing different views while respecting the humanitarian race. Music is about the message, the motivation, and the ministry. The real Gospel!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn becoming an independent artist doesn’t mean that success is navigated alone, or selfishly. I had an arrogant way of viewing my road map to riches. That old Kanye west mindset “excuse me… is you saying something ant ant you can’t tell me nothing” mentality. I was unaware of how important a team is. Rather than signed to a major label or self-owned, we all need a supportive group of individuals who are passionate about every position. You can be a label rep, who writes your own content while producing your own beats. You can market everything and even be your own booking manager. Take it from me you get worn out faster. Focus on one position and have a trustworthy team who has an impeccable work ethic. You will get further faster Together.
