Alright, Melissa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?

To be successful it takes ambition and consistency. You have to constantly find more ways to learn and grow, no matter how great you may be, there is always someone with more experience that can teach you something new.

Over the past 10 years in the industry, I’ve also learned that you have to have a backbone and stick to the rules and policies you create for your company, even if that means having tough conversations. You want to represent your business in a manner that people will respect and strive to be just like.

My name is Melissa Wise and I am the owner of Wise Beauty Co. I am a traveling professional hair and makeup artist based out of Hudson, Florida with 10+ years of of experience. I personally specialize in bridal services, however, I offer hair and makeup services for all special occasions.

I take pride in being personable with each and every person who sits in my chair, allowing us to create a relationship and full understanding of the look you want to achieve while providing my professional advice. Making you feel beautiful and confident is always my goal, and to do so I always strive to continue education and keep up to date with the latest trends.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

What helped me build my reputation in the industry is my professionalism and responsiveness. I always strive to have the best communication possible with all of my inquiries and get back to everyone in a timely manner. I personally communicate with every individual who is contracted to use our services, no matter if I will be the one performing services or if a team member will be doing so. Everything goes through me directly, I do not have a assistant doing it for me. I also strongly believe that my reputation in the industry is good because I strongly believe in community, not competition. I will be the first to support others in the industry and give any advice I possibly can to help others grow and to build positive relationships.

Any advice for managing a team?

When it comes to managing a team, I think it is very crucial to take ones character into consideration. It’s extremely important to have people on your team who are positive, trustworthy, and reliable. You also want someone who is great with communication and can take constructive criticism when needed. Growing as a team only happens when teams are on the same page and are able to all learn from one another.
