Melissa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later?
Years ago, I hosted a spa baby shower for my best friend. At that time, organic, “green” products were uncommon and clean, organic body products were nearly nonexistent. I wanted to keep my pregnant friend safe, so I decided to make all the spa products for the baby shower myself. The response from the other shower attendees was overwhelming, and the idea for the Earth Girl product line was born! In 2017, Earth Girl launched officially. People were very receptive to the organic products, but there was also a lot of competition by that time. While I wish I had officially launched Earth Girl right after that baby shower, I am happy to be sharing these safe, eco-friendly products now!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I have always been passionate about environmental preservation and animal rights. I was a member of Greenpeace and World Wildlife Federation at a young age, and I distinctly remember seeing their workers saving whales, koalas and pandas. Little did I know, this passion would lead to the creation a cruelty-free, eco-friendly, sustainable and organic body product company. The products we put on our bodies need to be as natural as possible, and consumers need to know the negative impact of many body products. I am proud to offer a green alternative to these harsh products. Earth Girl’s organic ingredients are good for the environment and good for your body, too!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
When people see the Earth Girl brand name, they know they are getting clean products, natural ingredients and eco-friendly packaging. Earth Girl is consistently out in the community at pop-ups or local events. We provide samples, share new products and educate people about the need for clean spa and body products… not just for their own use but also to help the environment and limit our use of single use plastic.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Believe it or not, Earth Girl has pivoted significantly in 2022. This year, our family dealt with multiple home repair issues and faced medical challenges, all while the brand experienced significant growth. To say this year has been overwhelming is an understatement! But, as a parent, I know the importance of leading by example. We are doing our best to manage it all. Flexibility is the key to success, in life and in business.
