We recently connected with Melissa Wald and have shared our conversation below.
Melissa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Taking a leap of faith in my retail management career was one of the boldest decisions I’ve made. After years of gaining valuable experience and trying to climb the corporate ladder, I felt a deep pull to follow my passion for beauty and spiritual healing. I knew that stepping away from the security of a steady job meant venturing into the unknown, but the desire to create something of my own—where I could truly make an impact on people’s lives—was stronger than any fear. Starting my own business was both thrilling and daunting, but it has been an empowering journey of growth, self-discovery, and purpose, where every challenge has taught me more about resilience, innovation, and the power of trusting my intuition.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My business is a unique blend of beauty, skincare, and spiritual wellness, designed to nourish both the body and the soul. We offer a curated selection of skincare products that focus on natural ingredients, promoting healthy, glowing skin while staying true to ethical, sustainable practices. But it’s not just about external beauty—our services also incorporate spiritual wellness, offering healing treatments like energy work, meditation sessions, and personalized guidance to help individuals reconnect with their inner selves. The goal of my business is to create a holistic experience that empowers people to look and feel their best, inside and out, while fostering a deep sense of peace and balance.
Have you ever had to pivot?
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, my business saw a surge in sales as people sought ways to prioritize self-care and wellness while staying at home. It was a time of growth, with many turning to beauty and spiritual products for comfort. However, as the world began to reopen, the market shifted, and I found that the demand for energy crystals, which had been incredibly popular during the pandemic, became oversaturated. With numerous brands flooding the market, I had to pivot my business strategy to maintain its uniqueness and value. I decided to scale back or stop offering crystals altogether and instead focused on curating a more specialized range of beauty and wellness products that felt more aligned with my mission. This change allowed me to refine my offerings and remain true to the core values of my brand, while continuing to provide exceptional experiences for my customers.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my social media audience by staying true to who I am—authentic, approachable, and genuinely passionate about the wellness and beauty journey. Instead of focusing solely on trends, I made sure to share my personal experiences and insights, creating a space where followers could relate and feel heard. By actively engaging with my audience, listening to their needs, and providing personalized recommendations, I was able to curate products that truly addressed their unique concerns, whether it was skincare, beauty routines, or spiritual wellness. This focus on being personable and offering tailored solutions, rather than just selling, helped me cultivate trust and a loyal following, where my community felt seen and valued in every interaction.
