We were lucky to catch up with Melissa Vogel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
As a health and fitness professional, my approach diverges significantly from the industry standard, placing a primary emphasis on the often-neglected yet crucial element of mindset. While many trainers focus solely on physical training regimens and nutritional plans, I’ve dedicated my practice to instilling a fundamental understanding of the profound connection between mindset and achieving fitness goals.
In my journey to differentiate myself in this industry, I’ve tirelessly emphasized the critical role of mental growth alongside physical development. I firmly believe that one’s success in the realm of health and fitness isn’t just about the workouts or diet plans but lies in the strength of one’s mindset. This principle is the cornerstone of my coaching philosophy.
I’ve worked diligently to communicate to my clients and followers that achieving and sustaining fitness goals involves a symbiotic relationship between mental and physical growth. I advocate that without a resilient and positive mindset, the path to a healthy lifestyle can be far more challenging. To illustrate this, I often share stories of clients who transformed their lives not just by changing their physical habits but by cultivating a strong, determined mindset.
My program, Busy To Bomb Fit Mom, encapsulates this philosophy. It’s not merely about shedding pounds or building muscle—it’s about transforming lives by nurturing a powerful mindset that paves the way for sustained physical changes. Through a holistic approach that intertwines fitness routines, nutritional guidance, and mental empowerment, I guide mothers to not only achieve their fitness aspirations but also enhance their overall well-being.
The stories and experiences shared within the Busy To Bomb Fit Mom community reflect the transformative power of embracing a mindset-focused approach. Clients have not only achieved their desired fitness results but have also grown mentally, becoming more resilient, confident, and committed to long-term health.
My dedication to this unique approach stems from my belief that true and lasting fitness success is a marriage between physical and mental growth. I’m passionate about breaking away from industry norms to create a more comprehensive and effective path toward health and wellness for all, particularly for busy moms seeking a balanced and sustainable lifestyle.
Melissa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Absolutely, here’s an updated version:
Hi, I’m Melissa Vogel, the owner and creator of the transformative program, Busy To Bomb Fit Mom, as well as the proud host of the Bomb Mom Podcast. With over 200 episodes, my podcast holds a 5-star ranking and is globally ranked in the top 1% on Listen Notes, reaching and resonating with an incredible community worldwide.
My journey began as a dedicated trainer and coach, motivated by my personal struggles. As a single mother to three incredible daughters, I fully understand the challenges of losing oneself in the complexities of work and motherhood. It was from these trials that I created Busy To Bomb Fit Mom, focused on reigniting that inner fire that may have dimmed due to the demands of everyday life.
My mission is to guide moms in rediscovering their strength, both physically and mentally. I wholeheartedly believe in an identity shift, empowering women to transform not only their bodies but their entire self-perception. Through this program, I help moms build a strong, sexy body they’re proud of, while simultaneously nurturing self-love and confidence—essential elements for reclaiming their identity.
What makes me most proud are my incredible daughters, who embody strength, confidence, and resilience—traits they’ve learned on their journey alongside me. Equally, my pride extends to my Bomb Mom clients, who bravely navigate their busy lives to pursue their fitness and mental transformation. Witnessing their growth, not just physically but mentally and spiritually, is an honor I deeply cherish.
My brand symbolizes empowerment and growth, rooted in resilience and learning from life’s trials and tribulations. We’re here to support all moms ready to embrace change, ready to rediscover their worth, and ready to embark on a transformation that lasts a lifetime. Together, we champion resilience and stand as a testament to the incredible strength that lies within each and every one of us.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What primarily helped me establish my reputation within the market was my commitment to authenticity. I’ve always strived to be honest, raw, and real, sharing the unfiltered truth with my clients, followers, and listeners. In a world saturated with polished “after” photos and success stories, I’ve chosen to shed light on the journey itself—the struggles, barriers, and obstacles that often accompany the path to success. I firmly believe that these challenges are a fundamental part of the growth process and should not be hidden or overlooked.
Transparency has been my guiding principle. I share my tears, pain, and struggles openly, aiming to show others that success is achievable despite the difficulties. Life took a drastic turn for me with a divorce that marked the end of a 17-year marriage. It felt as though my world had shattered, and from those pieces, I had to rebuild not only my life but also my business. I didn’t have the luxury of choice—I had to grow, evolve, and make it work.
Throughout this deeply transformative period, I took my clients and followers on this journey with me. I wanted them to witness firsthand that tears, unexpected events, loss, stress, depression, and all the hardships life throws at us needn’t halt our fitness and personal growth journey. Instead, I demonstrated that these challenges can be pivotal points for growth and empowerment.
By being authentic about my own struggles, I’ve connected on a deeper level with my community, fostering an environment where vulnerability is not a weakness but a stepping stone towards resilience and success. I’ve shown that it’s possible to rise from adversity, stronger and more determined than ever. This commitment to honesty and resilience has been a cornerstone in building my reputation and fostering a community that understands and embraces the reality of personal and fitness growth.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The most significant lesson I had to unlearn was the idea that the fitness and wellness strategies I followed in my early twenties would seamlessly apply after becoming a mother. The backstory lies in the monumental shift that occurred as I transitioned into motherhood. When a woman becomes a mom, the entire world changes. It’s not merely about the baby, the changed schedules, or the lack of time; it’s about the transformation that happens to our bodies—a transformation no one truly prepares us for.
With the arrival of each child, I was confronted with the stark reality that I needed to unlearn and relearn everything about fitness, training, and nutrition. What worked for me at 22 wasn’t applicable to the 33-year-old mother of three that I had become. My body responded differently, my hormones were in a new balance, and I had transformed into a different version of myself, a new beast that needed a fresh approach.
Letting go of the outdated belief that running and eating less were the only solutions was pivotal. It became apparent that I needed to embrace weight lifting and view nutrition as a means to fuel my body, not punish it. I embarked on a journey to love this new body that had created three human beings, learning to love myself again in this altered state and recognize the necessity of creating time and space for self-care.
This metamorphosis wasn’t just physical; it involved substantial mental work that I’d never before prioritized. I found myself journaling, doing squats both physically and metaphorically, ensuring I consumed nourishing foods while paying attention to essential nutrients. It taught me the value of letting go of preconceived notions to make room for growth, evolving into a better version of myself.
The key takeaway was the necessity of being coachable and open to new methods to pave the way for personal growth. Sometimes, unlearning what we think we know is the essential step toward embracing newer, more effective ways that lead us to become the best version of ourselves. It’s about adaptation, resilience, and being open to change.
