We were lucky to catch up with Melissa Stynski recently and have shared our conversation below.
Melissa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
In a world that seems to be going up in prices with everything around us. I believe being able to offer affordable photography is important. I believe that capturing the smallest of days of your newborns life, will be photos you will treasure forever. I believe that capturing the milestone of a pregancy, a childs birthday, or a family photo, will truly all be moments that you will never regret capturing those times. I have been in business for almost 12 years. In that time, it has always been near and dear to my own heart for families to have photos of their children and of all of them together. Not only is it important but I believe it should be affordable.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello! I am Melissa. I am a farm girl from the mid west. I left the country living, for city life in Colorado, in 2006. My husband and I had just graduated college and we decided we wanted an adventure. We headed west with no plans, no jobs and no place to live. We simply had a lot of excitment, a lot of faith and followed our dream into the unknown. In 2007, we became parents for the first time. With all the exictment, also was so much heartache, as we were told our sweet baby had a heart condition and would need heart surgery right away. As first time parents, the road ahead of us, was nothing we had planned or dreamed about, but we held on, had a lot of faith and we are so blessed to say that 15 years later, our baby girl is thriving.
It was living through all those little moments, that something in me knew I needed to capture every minute I could. So, it was here that I started my photography journey. I bought a camera and I took photos of everything.
My hobby turned into a career in 2011. I never knew the journey ahead but I enjoyed every minute of it. I loved taking photos. I loved creating something for my clients. I loved seeing the expressions on their faces when they would see that newborn photo of their sweet baby. I loved and cried tears of joy with my clients as they looked at an album I had designed for them, that they would now be able to pass onto their own children one day. I loved how these clients turned into some of my very best friends.
I think when you find what you really love to do, something changes. What was once, just taking a photo, has turned into so much more for me.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Hands down, word of mouth. This is the fastest and most effective way to promote any business. Truth is, if you take care of your customers, they will take care of you.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best sourse, would also be word of mouth. You have a friend who has a friend who has a friend….you get the idea. Word spreads fast!
