We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Melissa Savage. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Melissa below.
Melissa , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The whole concept of Gellies by Melissa really all came by chance, it was a really vulnerable time when the concept started. I was actually in my postpartum period after having my last baby. I was home and feeling really lost and didn’t really know what I enjoyed outside of motherhood, I think everyone who is a mother can relate to this. You really change after having kids, you forget who you were before, what you enjoyed before kids, all your focus is really your kids. I had started to do my nails at home just dabbling with painting and doing my nails at home. As a mom I didn’t have the time to go and get my nails done so I found comfort in painting after everyone went to bed and with that the idea of Gellies by Melissa came to be I figured there is lots of people and especially moms who have no time for the salon but would love to feel pretty and love having their nails. I wanted moms and busy people to have access to have nails right at home without one having to do your nails yourself which takes hours and a product that was eco-friendly and saves money. Bringing cute nail art and resuable nail art that can re-worn many times.

Melissa , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My business provides an alternative to moms (busy individuals) who have no time for the salon, have salon anxiety to receive reusable press on nails right in the comfort of home. My brand really relates to motherhood, as women/guardians etc who really have minimal time for ourselves and us as people really go at the end of the totem poll and we care for everyone else, it’s nice to have something that makes us feel good when we don’t have time for ourselves.
My product is reusable, durable custom press on nails that last and save money. I know it’s easy to run and grab a $10-$15 press on nails from a different brand but my product really brings the custom aspect of it, you receive 10 nails that will fit you perfectly and last on your nails with great prep and can be reused over 5 times if they are cared for properly.
It’s bringing the nail salon right to your home without having to go to the nail salon.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media really is such a roller coaster and can really consume your business and feel like you are failing because a peer or a business is thriving and you feel like you are not, which couldn’t be further then the truth. What I would say to someone starting on social media is being yourself, I know it can easily feel like you need to copy to succeed but honestly being yourself will bring likeminded people and your story and you is what makes you unique.
Staying authentic and true will bring that social media presence and as a business that sells a product there is nothing like trust between you and your client. Lots of my clients have become friends and women who support me and are like-minded.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I have been amazed from the support of strangers and how my clients have build from word of mouth. I am always so thankful that someone chooses to spend their hard earned money on my art and no sale ever goes unnoticed.
Building trust and always being transparent with my clients and always making sure they love their nails is always priority and building a relationship with is always key, it is never just a sale when they are talking to me inquiring for a nail set.
