Melissa, appreciate you joining us today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
For the past 11 years, it’s been our Thanksgiving tradition at the Rippy Agency to share a little sweetness with our clients! Each year, our clients get to choose between a delicious pumpkin pie or apple pie — our way of saying thank you for being part of our family.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The Melissa Rippy Agency is proud to be a locally owned and operated insurance agency serving Brighton, Colorado since 2013. Our story began long before that — when Melissa first entered the insurance industry in 2002. Her career started as a claims adjuster, where she spent 11 years investigating auto accidents involving injuries. That experience built a deep understanding of how insurance truly impacts people’s lives, inspiring her to open her own agency and serve the Brighton community directly.
Since opening our doors, the Rippy Agency has been honored as the Small Business of the Year by the Greater Brighton Chamber of Commerce — first in 2014 and again in 2021. These recognitions reflect our ongoing commitment to both our clients and our community.
Each year, we proudly award a $1,000 scholarship to a Brighton High School Senior, supporting the next generation of local leaders. Giving back is at the heart of who we are. Throughout the year, our agency holds community drives to collect school supplies, food, and other essentials to help those in need right here in Brighton.
We also love spreading kindness and connection through Elsie, our Little Free Mobile Library, which we own and operate. Elsie is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and you can find her parked just north of the AMC movie theater in the Brighton Pavilions. Everyone is welcome to stop by, borrow a book, or leave one for someone else to enjoy.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

How did you build your audience on social media?
At the Melissa Rippy Agency, we love connecting with our community — not just in person, but online too! Over the years, we’ve built a wonderful audience on social media, especially on Facebook, where we stay active, engaged, and full of fun.
We regularly host contests and giveaways as a way to say thank you to our amazing clients and followers. From concert tickets to football and baseball tickets, sports jerseys, TVs, bicycles, Apple Watches, and more — we love surprising our community with exciting prizes that bring a little extra joy to their day.
Our social media is also a place where we share what matters most to us: community involvement. We highlight local events, spotlight our favorite local businesses, and showcase the many ways we give back — from food and school supply drives to scholarships and volunteer efforts.
And of course, no story about our agency would be complete without mentioning our beloved Chief Happiness Officer, Mochi Mayhem Huff — our cheerful pug who keeps the office smiling and reminds us daily to spread happiness wherever we can. Mochi has become a bit of a local celebrity and fan favorite on our social pages!
