We recently connected with Melissa Reischman and have shared our conversation below.
Melissa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew when I was a teenager, that I wanted to pursue a creative line of work “when I grew up”.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I discovered at a young age that I am a creator. I was happiest being alone with my art supplies, limited as they were. I eventually became a graphic designer and worked in that industry for several years. Over time, I came to miss the tactile qualities of art-making. I realized there was a longing to investigate my inner visions. Drawing and painting allowed me to express myself in ways that my work as a graphic designer couldn’t. Taking the time to fully explore an idea or an image has become a very important aspect of my life. My work is inspired by nature, and informed by personal mythologies, and memories and are visual metaphors for psycho-spiritual transformation. I focus on the dichotomy of light and dark and how it mirrors the transitions that occur when drifting through various emotional states.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My overarching goal is to visually translate my sensual response to the natural world where time is spent seeking solace as well as inspiration. The process of drawing and painting allows me to focus on elements of light, and the passage of time and to contemplate certain principles such as those of Wabi-Sabi and spirituality. I am striving to better understand my existence in the world and my connection to something akin to the collective consciousness. I believe in the power of creativity to inspire, connect, and evoke emotions. I strive to create content that will resonate with others, and foster a sense of curiosity and wonder about one’s experiences. My mission is to have a positive impact on others, leaving them with a sense of hope.
I see my creative journey as a dynamic process of self-discovery and evolution. In summary, my goal is to create meaningful and impactful work, visually translating my sensual response to gain a deeper understanding of the human condition and to continue to grow as an artist.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I find fulfillment in the ability to communicate ideas, emotions, and perspectives through my creative expressions. Witnessing the moments when someone connects with my art, finds solace, inspiration, or a reflection of their own experiences, is incredibly rewarding. The exploration of new techniques, concepts, and various mediums keeps me engaged and fuels my growth. Additionally, and more importantly, the artist’s community that I have found is welcoming and inclusive and has enriched my life immensely.
