We were lucky to catch up with Melissa Ramsey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Melissa , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
I’ve struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. As a nurse practitioner, I knew the science—I knew what I should be doing—but that didn’t make it any easier. I tried everything: every diet, every trend, every new method. Nothing seemed to work long-term, and the emotional toll was just as heavy as the physical one.
Eventually, through years of trial, reflection, and real internal work, I found a process that actually worked for me. It wasn’t about chasing quick results—it was about building sustainable habits, understanding my body, and giving myself grace. That transformation didn’t just change my health—it gave me a purpose. I became deeply passionate about helping others who are walking the same path I had, especially because I know how hard it can be.
That’s when I decided to start my own practice. I wanted to create a space where people felt truly seen—where health care didn’t just come from a place of clinical expertise, but from empathy and lived experience. The early days were challenging. I had the vision and the passion, but I quickly realized how much there was to learn about the business side: setting up the legal structure, managing overhead, choosing the right EMR, navigating insurance vs. cash-pay models, hiring support staff—it was a lot.
The biggest challenge was learning to wear so many hats while still trying to maintain the heart of why I started. There were moments of doubt, and more than once I questioned whether I could really do it. But each patient I helped reminded me why I began this journey.
If I could do anything differently, I would have reached out for mentorship earlier. Trying to figure everything out alone made things harder than they needed to be. Surrounding yourself with people who have been through it—other NPs, health professionals, small business owners—can make all the difference.
To any young professional thinking about starting their own practice: Do it. Don’t wait until everything is “perfect,” because it never will be. But do your homework. Know your why. Be ready to work harder than you ever have, but know that the reward—building something meaningful that reflects who you are—is worth it. And never lose sight of the people you’re doing it for, including yourself.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
At the heart of our practice is a deeply personal story—one of resilience, empathy, and a shared mission between two sisters. As twin nurses, we’ve not only spent years caring for others in the medical field, but we’ve also walked the difficult, emotional, and often overwhelming road of weight loss ourselves. We know what it feels like to carry the physical and emotional weight of struggling with body image, health concerns, and the frustration of failed diets. That experience—both as healthcare professionals and as women who have been in your shoes—is what inspired us to create this practice.
We founded our weight loss clinic because we recognized a gap in the kind of care people were receiving. Too often, weight loss is treated as a simple numbers game—calories in, calories out. But anyone who’s truly struggled with weight knows it’s so much more complex than that. It’s hormonal. It’s emotional. It’s behavioral. It’s about stress, trauma, environment, relationships, and self-worth. As nurses, we’ve seen how excess weight can impact nearly every aspect of a person’s life—heart health, joint pain, sleep, energy levels, and mental health. And as individuals who have faced it ourselves, we understand the shame, the exhaustion, and the loneliness that can come with it.
That’s why our approach is different. We don’t just treat weight—we treat people.
Our practice offers medically-informed, compassionate, and customized weight loss programs that are designed to support the whole person. We provide nutrition guidance, lifestyle coaching, accountability, metabolic and hormone assessments, and behavioral support. Every plan is built around the individual—there are no cookie-cutter templates here. Whether you’re trying to lose 10 pounds or 100, our focus is always on long-term success, not temporary fixes.
What sets us apart is the dual perspective we bring—clinical expertise combined with lived experience. We know the science, but we also understand the struggle. That combination allows us to connect with our clients on a level that’s deeply personal and genuinely supportive. There’s no judgment here—just a team that sees you, hears you, and is ready to help you build a healthier, more confident life.
We are incredibly proud of the work we do—not just because our clients lose weight, but because they regain parts of themselves they thought were gone: energy, confidence, self-belief. We’ve watched people go from avoiding mirrors to smiling in photos again. From skipping social events to showing up for life in full. Those transformations mean everything to us, because we’ve been there. And we know what it takes to come out the other side.
More than anything, we want people to know that they don’t have to do this alone. If you’ve been struggling, if you’ve tried everything and nothing has stuck, if you’re tired of the cycle and ready for something that finally feels different—you’re in the right place. We’re here to guide you with empathy, evidence, and encouragement.
This isn’t just our business. This is our calling.
As part of our commitment to holistic, client-centered care, we’ve thoughtfully expanded our services to include offerings that not only support weight loss—but enhance how you feel in your body throughout the journey.
We provide wellness injections designed to boost energy, metabolism, and nutrient levels, helping you feel your best from the inside out. Our habit shift weight loss programs are the core of what we do—these are carefully structured to reframe your relationship with food, movement, and self-care, while offering real tools for lasting change. This isn’t about willpower—it’s about building sustainable habits in a supportive, structured environment.
But we also understand that as your body changes, your needs evolve too. That’s why we’ve incorporated body contouring and aesthetic treatments that complement the weight loss process. These aren’t just cosmetic—they’re part of the confidence-rebuilding work we do with our clients every day.
Our RF microneedling treatments help tighten and firm skin, which is especially important for those who are losing significant weight and want to maintain smooth, healthy skin as their body reshapes. We also offer laser lipo, a non-invasive option to target stubborn fat areas that often resist diet and exercise. And for clients looking to restore shape in a natural, proportional way, our fat transfer procedures help enhance contours and refine the results of your transformation.
These services aren’t about chasing perfection—they’re about helping you feel empowered and aligned with your goals, at every stage of your journey. You deserve to love the body you’re working so hard to care for—and we’re here to help make that possible.
Our entire practice has been built with one goal in mind: to walk beside you as both healthcare providers and fellow travelers on the path to health. Whether you’re just starting out or have already made strides on your own, our team is ready to meet you where you are and take that next step together.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I wasn’t a natural budgetista—far from it. Learning how to plan financially for staff, devices, advertising, and all the moving parts of running a business was a real challenge. At first, I was fighting myself—resisting change, clinging to old habits. But over time, I came to understand that budgeting isn’t just about spreadsheets or numbers—it’s about clarity, control, and sustainability. Now, not only do I plan better for my business, but I’ve learned to apply those same principles to my personal life as well. Budgeting became a tool for growth, not a burden

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Your friends and family might support your business, but they can’t sustain it. At some point, you have to get out of your comfort zone. That means talking to strangers, showing up on social media, and staying in the know with current trends. Growth happens when you reach beyond your circle.
In the beginning, we had tons of love from friends and family—and we’re so grateful for that. But as time went on (and as expected), that support tapered off. People got busy, priorities shifted, and let’s be honest… they often wanted a discount. That’s when we realized: if we wanted to build something real, something lasting, we had to stop relying on our inner circle and start building a community around our value.
Strangers will become your best clients. The people who don’t know you personally will pay full price, refer their friends, and cheer you on just because they believe in what you do. But first, you have to be willing to put yourself out there and show them why your work matters.
