Alright, Melissa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
I feel I am misunderstood alot. I am really big on energy and at the moment I feel someone’s vibe or energy is weird, I remove myself quietly. Life is already challenging enough, so I want to enjoy the rest of my life protecting my peace and doing what makes my heart smile.
Melissa , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I began my acting career in 2022 as a background actress. The first day I planted my feet on set, I knew this was something I wanted to do. The feeling was unimaginable and I knew I wanted so much more. Every opportunity presented, I used it to network and began building my brand. I came to set with a positive attitude and gave it my all each and everytime.
I am so proud of how far I have come. I was dealing with depression when my acting career started, so it truly helped me navigate through such a dark place in my life. I always say be kind to others, because you never know what they are battling. Acting truly was my medicine to fighting my depression head on.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I would say fighting depression. A lot of people had no idea I was in such a dark place. I showed up with the biggest smile on my face, but the darkest hole in my heart. I would leave set and the tears would just roll from my eyes, I was hurting and felt my happiness had been compromised. I prayed so heavily for God to release this awful moment of my life away, and he did just that.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to continue to take on roles that will show my growth in my acting career. Lately I been landing roles that I only dreamed about. I have been challenged to push myself more and not shy away from bigger roles. I use to be so scared to take on roles that required more screen time, but God did not show me my purpose for nothing. I have been pushing myself and going after everything that’s meant for me.
