Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Melissa Michelle Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Melissa Michelle, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
Yes and no.
There’s a part of me that wishes I had found my voice earlier — that I had known who I was and had the courage to express it sooner. But I also believe timing is always divine. It’s never too early or too late.
The truth is, I needed to live a little. I had to go through the journey — the growing pains, the self-doubt, the character-building seasons — to evolve into the artist I’m still becoming. I was a quiet kid, unsure of how or where I fit. It took time, experience, and a lot of self-love to get here. And while earlier might have given me a head start, the path I took gave me depth. And that’s something I wouldn’t trade.
Melissa Michelle, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Melissa Michelle Jones — a versatile talent in the industry. As a poet, screenwriter, and Actor, I bring a unique blend of comedy, horror, and romance to everything I create. I’ve had the opportunity to work on projects for Netflix, Comedy Central, indie films, and a wide range of commercials. I thrive on captivating audiences with creativity and storytelling that feels both personal and universal. I love moving between genres and platforms — it’s what keeps the work fresh, honest, and exciting.
My journey started with pageants. It was something my mom encouraged me to do, and while I was grateful, it wasn’t what truly pulled at my heart. I was told I was pretty, so people assumed that’s what I should pursue. But I had more to say. I started writing poetry at twelve — it became a place to say what I couldn’t always speak out loud. That’s where I really found my voice.
Acting came into my life through what felt like fate. I was in an elevator and a woman — a total stranger — looked at me and said, “You should be an actor.” I hadn’t even said hello. At the time, I thought she was crazy. But after moving from Boston to New York, her words started to make sense. I began booking commercials, working on music videos, and eventually doing short films with artists like Alicia Keys and Tristan Wilds.
Falling in love with performance happened at the same time I was falling in love with a new city and building a life that felt like mine. I’ve since published two poetry books and grown into a screenwriter and performer with vision and purpose. Taking this life seriously has opened doors my 8-year-old self could never have dreamed of.
And the best part? I’m just getting started.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
At the heart of my creative journey is purpose. Of course, I want to perform — that’s my passion. But more than that, I want to carve out space for other creatives like me. I want someone to look at my path and feel seen, feel encouraged, and believe that they don’t have to give up. We all deserve to pursue the dreams that live inside us. My mission is to keep showing up — not just for myself, but for the next storyteller, actor, or writer who’s waiting to feel like their voice belongs too.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There was a time when the “no’s” felt like they were louder than anything else. Rejection after rejection can chip away at your confidence if you let it. But I had to shift my mindset — I started to believe that every no just meant I was one step closer to the right yes. I reminded myself that you miss every shot you don’t take. So I kept showing up. Kept auditioning. Kept writing. Kept creating. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that resilience isn’t about never feeling discouraged — it’s about feeling that and still choosing to keep going. And every time I do, something new opens up that reminds me exactly why I started.
