We were lucky to catch up with Melissa Martinez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Melissa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The Birth of Krypt Aesthetics
In the shadows of the beauty industry, where conformity often reigns, I saw a void. A void that craved individuality, self-expression, and empowerment. As a Gothic Esthetician, I knew I had to create a sanctuary where the misunderstood and marginalized could find solace.
Growing up, I struggled to find my place in the world. I was the outsider, the misfit, the one who dared to be different. But in the darkness, I found my strength. I discovered the beauty of the unconventional, the allure of the unknown.
Krypt Aesthetics was born from this vision. A place where the bold, the fearless, and the unapologetic could come together. Where waxing and beauty services weren’t just about physical transformation but about reclaiming one’s identity.
My mission is to provide a judgment-free haven, where every individual can unleash their true self. Where the gothic, alternative, and LGBTQ+ communities can find refuge and celebration.
At Krypt Aesthetics, we believe:
Beauty lies in the shadows.
Individuality is strength.
Self-expression is revolution.
We wax, we transform, we empower.
Join the crypt, where darkness meets beauty.

Melissa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Welcome my misfits, I am your Krypt Keeper. A gothic esthetician. Master waxer of a decades worth of experience. I created this sacred space for like-minded individuals to unite, share and indulge in all things beauty, self-care, and alternative culture.
Growing up I was an awkward individual who always loved the theatrics and arts, always drawn to the more dark, mysterious things. I became fascinated with the beauty industry and grew loving solely makeup, so of course like any other, I started beauty school of cosmetology. This is where it all began for me, falling deeply for all things beauty. I was still finding a place for myself in this industry to find my crowd, I kept changing my style trying to “fit in”, wasn’t until not too long ago, I gave up those standards and chose my own path. In my path I finally found my crowd, I created groups just to bring more of us together.
I have gained a lot of recognition since I chose my own path, it has extremely helped me a lot with business and growing my brand. I have been asked my several estheticians to help perfect their Brazilian waxing techniques.
For anyone out there reading whether you’re an esthetician or a future client, I want you to know you’re not alone and don’t have to dull your weirdness to fit into society’s beauty standards. At Krypt Aesthetics, you’re always welcomed!

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I know we’re in a time where we all live in social media and growing a business is all about having a social media presence, but one thing that has always helped me gain clientele was meeting future clients, in-person. I went to beauty school when socials weren’t all about advertising, so the old fashion way, of course was introducing yourself, the face of your brand to a potential client. It has helped me grow and gain trust from those.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Always checking in with my clients, past clients and current. It helps for them to know that I actually care about them and isn’t just about a transaction. I grew this business because I care for them.
