We recently connected with Melissa Laughlin and have shared our conversation below.
Melissa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The Blessed Home Project was created to be a blessing to others. We provide hope & encouragement, as well as providing a necessary physical need such as a clean home. We believe everyone deserves a space to recover, rest & heal.
Our mission is so important to me because I know what it’s like to go through challenging times where it’s difficult to keep up, especially on the cleanliness of the house. When someone else steps in to that space to help you and also listen to what you are going through, it means so much.
We get to listen to people while they are going through difficulties and are able to offer a open heart and opportunity to pray with people right in their homes. They are so grateful and appreciative of our services, but most importantly of our love to them.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The Blessed Home Project helps anyone struggling in the Airport West areas of Pittsburgh
We provide one-time home cleanings for people who are dealing with things like illness, injury, the loss of a loved one or other unforeseen circumstances. We help clean their home, but more importantly offer hope & encouragement. We are able to listen to their story & provide a clean space, all as a act of love from our team. We believe we are the hands and feet of Jesus, so we blessed to serve others in this capacity.
Our purpose is to deliver a calm environment during a difficult situation, which enables families to better care for each other, rest, and heal.
Having a clean home allows for peace, and the ability to focus on more important things on hand that our recipients are facing.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I have had a for profit cleaning company for many years and once the Blessed Home Project started to catch momentum, I had to make the decision of how I wanted to spend my future-whether it was building a for profit or building this nonprofit. After much prayer & discernment, it was clear that the Blessed Home Project was the gift & calling God had given to me. As of this year, running the Blessed Home Project has become my full time position and I couldn’t be more grateful.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
At the initial start of the Blessed Home Project, a cleaning client of mine offered to make the first donation to get things off the ground. Since then, we have been dependent on donations from individuals & businesses who value our mission & impact in the community. We also do some fundraisers & grants to help aid in the costs of running the organization. We invite everyone reading this to consider partnering with us financially to further our efforts of providing hep & hope in the Pittsburgh area.
