We recently connected with Melissa Gonzalez and have shared our conversation below.
Melissa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
I’ve had an interesting relationship with vacations. There have been periods in my life when I was so busy hustling and grinding to make my creative efforts a success while also balancing work and school, that a vacation seemed like it would utterly destroy all of my work. fast forward to the present day and I have learned that vacations are necessary. As a creative person, I am often bombarded with ideas in my head, and trying to execute them all can be draining, to say the least. a vacation allows your brain to become reinspired while exploring a new location. There needs to be a balance between work, creating, school, or whatever you may be doing to take some time for yourself.

Melissa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been creative for as far as I can remember. In my youth, I often wrote short stories about video game characters in my spare time. As I grew my writing evolved and I began writing about music in college. The brand has evolved over time as have our services. You need to be adaptable to the market and what clients are looking for However, the main focus has and will always be writing about music. the ultimate goal has always been to shine a spotlight on lesser-known artists while staying up to date on current music.
While we are Miami based currently, we feature artists from all across the world. Turnaround times can be long as we like to sit with the music to give a true analysis of the music. Speed often leads to badly written reviews and inaccurate information. I am most proud of being one of the only hip-hop bloggers still around as many have fallen by the wayside as their lives have moved on. Even in periods where I am unable to focus on the website I have not allowed it to be taken down as these artist spotlights can catapult an artist’s stature.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I use social media and emails to keep in touch with clients. building a loyal fanbase is crucial to any business. It is better to have ten loyal clients than 100 who do not support you beyond their own needs.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Communication. This is crucial in maintaining and growing any relationships. If you are running behind on a review or project, let the person on the receiving end know. This creates a good working relationship.
