Alright, Melissa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.

I think that one of the things that sets me apart from other business strategists or business coaches/consultants is my holistic approach. Clients come to me with challenges, goals, issues, ideas…and interstingtly enough, the “thing” is rarely ever “the thing” meaning that once we dig in and look at the bigger picture, what actually becomes the priority is usually not what the client presented to begin with. This approach matters because it’s the foundation of creating resilient, agile strategy that is sustainable versus the typical “you have a goal and I create the pathway to achieve it” approach to strategic consulting.

I believe in looking at the individual person behind the business; their core values, their strengths, their mission and vision. I believe in looking at the goal or priority and assessing it against the whole business to determine if it really is the best use of focus and energy for yielding the greatest ROI.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

In 2015, I faced a significant pivot in both my career and life when I made the decision to leave the corporate world and embark on a new journey in the online space. The catalyst for this transition was my unwavering support for my husband’s active-duty military career. We had to move, and this meant saying goodbye to the stability of my corporate position.

Leaving behind a career I had worked so hard to build was both daunting and challenging. However, it was also an opportunity for growth and reinvention. I decided to turn this pivotal moment into a chance to pursue my passion and make a meaningful impact in a different way. It marked the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey, where I founded and nurtured my online business from scratch.

This pivot not only required resilience and adaptability but also a deep commitment to my own personal and professional development. It taught me the importance of embracing change, seizing new opportunities, and staying true to my values. Today, I use this experience to empower others to navigate their own entrepreneurial journeys with confidence and purpose, reminding them that even the most unexpected pivots can lead to extraordinary growth

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

One of the most valuable lessons I had to unlearn is the conventional notion that we go to college, choose a career path, and follow a linear trajectory from there. My own professional journey has been a testament to the unpredictability of career paths.

With a Master’s degree in Agriculture, I initially embarked on a path that seemed predefined. However, life had other plans for me. I transitioned from teaching to owning a storefront, took a detour into the corporate world of a Fortune 500 company, and eventually found my true calling in my current business as a business alignment strategist.

These diverse experiences, from education to entrepreneurship, and from corporate life to my present work, have been crucial in shaping my approach. They’ve taught me that the most rewarding career paths often defy convention. They zigzag, evolve, and adapt to the unique circumstances and passions that shape our lives. Embracing the non-linearity of my journey has allowed me to fully appreciate the value of diverse experiences and skill sets. It’s a lesson I carry with me, reminding both myself and my clients that success often lies in embracing the unexpected and exploring new, uncharted territories.
