We recently connected with Melissa Duarte and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Melissa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Every project I work on holds meaning because creating art is also sharing a piece of myself. Each piece represents a small fragment of my perspective on the world, a fleeting moment captured in form and color. It’s not about one project being more significant than another but about the ongoing process of creation—how it allows me to explore, reflect, and connect. Art, for me, is less about the final product and more about the journey it takes to translate emotions into something tangible that resonates with others.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m an artist who loves to explore the unexpected. My work is fun, bold, and often playful, blending vibrant colors and quirky elements to create something fresh and different. I draw inspiration from everyday moments, cultural influences, and surprising combinations that make you stop and look twice. What sets me apart is my willingness to break the mold—my pieces don’t take themselves too seriously but still spark thought and connection. I’m proud of how my art invites people to see the world in a more imaginative way.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing how my work resonates with others in unexpected ways. Knowing that something I’ve created can spark joy, curiosity, or a fresh perspective is incredibly fulfilling. It’s also the freedom to experiment and play with ideas—art allows me to push boundaries and express myself in ways that words often can’t. Ultimately, it’s about the connection my work creates, both for myself and for those who engage with it.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Stoic philosophy has been a significant influence on my thinking and approach as both an artist and an entrepreneur. Works like Marcus Aurelius’ *Meditations* and Seneca’s *Letters to a Stoic* have taught me the value of focusing on what I can control, staying grounded amidst challenges, and embracing setbacks as opportunities for growth. The Stoic principle of finding purpose and meaning in everyday actions deeply aligns with how I create and manage my work, helping me stay resilient and thoughtful in my creative and entrepreneurial journey.
