We recently connected with Melissa Barker and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

After spending 7 years as a Coca-Cola Company Global Marketing executive—and with a treasure trove of expertise in design and compelling messaging—I established The Show & Tell Co., a content company that provided marketing solutions to over 75 startups. As I grew, I recognized the need for women-focused support, with the deep belief that women supporting women is one of the most powerful tools for our collective success.

Today, as the Founder and CEO of Women Entrepreneurs Inc.—a Forbes-featured global platform of over 30k female founders—we have one mission in mind: empower women in business.

Through the years we’ve grown to offer proven marketing solutions with a hybrid of services, strategy, and coaching to help female CEOs, coaches, consultants, and service-providers own their purpose, build a brand they absolutely love, and ultimately get visible for the success and impact they want.

Melissa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

At the heart of who I am, I absolutely geek out on all things marketing: the strategy, the design, the creative process. I love to get into the head of what makes someone tick, what are their needs, who are they deep inside that help form their behaviors and decisions.

And through my work with Coca Cola, I had A LOT of hands-on experience honing those skills.

But I eventually realized that I truly love empowering women; there’s just something about women lifting other women up, celebrating small or big wins, and breaking boundaries that makes it a JOY to do each day. You know that whole “do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life?” Well, it is work… but it’s work I LOVE.

What makes WE Inc. different though is that we’re not just your average branding and marketing company. Sure, we can create a pretty logo or website, or strategize your marketing, but we’re on a mission to help women get VISIBLE because that’s where the magic truly happens. Now that doesn’t mean just jumping in front of a camera and dancing on Tik Tok—unless that’s your thing, and then more power to you.

Instead, we work with women to discover what feels authentic and purposeful to them, so we can cultivate a visibility strategy that aligns with that. However it happens, the end result is ultimately success, impact, and growth in their business.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.

I’m a big believe in email marketing, and staying top of mind with my current, past, or even potential clients… but in a way that is valuable to them, not just me. I show up on social media, in email, and have even done virtual and live events in the past, all to just continue pouring into the women I work with or who are in our community.

But perhaps most notably, the WE Inc. membership allows women to have constant interaction and connection with me AND like-minded women in their local areas and beyond. We have a private community, an interactive Slack channel, and more that allows us to share wins, opportunities, and ask questions in real time. For example, in my membership, I frequently share grants, speaking opportunities, awards, etc. that are available and best practices for submitting. I want to empower women—so for me, “keeping in touch” means pouring into them to help them win.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

It’s really simple actually: Being genuinely excited to help other women thrive.

There are tons of marketing companies out there, but when you work with WE Inc., you truly know you have women on your side cheering you on, helping you to grow, and working relentlessly to see you succeed.

And when that is evident, it’s hard not for it to catch on. Our members and clients are our biggest referral partners because they spread the word just from being excited about their own wins and growth!
