Hi Melisa & Irene, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success, regardless of the field, hinges on a few key principles. Firstly, having a clear vision and a well-thought-out strategy lays the foundation. Hello, readers! We’re Melisa and Irene, the co-founders of The DM Duo. Our journey into the digital marketing world began during our time at FIU, where we both graduated in 2018. Sure, we might have our own version of an existential crisis, which tends to hit us every month—or okay, let’s be real, sometimes even every week. What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One significant lesson we had to unlearn was the belief that we had to say “yes” to every potential client that crossed our path. In the early days of The DM Duo, we were excited about any business that showed interest in our services. We thought that taking on as many clients as possible would lead to rapid growth and success. However, this approach quickly revealed its flaws.
There was this one instance where we accepted a project from a client who had unrealistic expectations and constantly changed their goals. Despite our best efforts, the project seemed to be going in circles. We poured in an extraordinary amount of time and energy, neglecting our other clients and even our well-being. We realized that this wasn’t the kind of partnership we wanted to foster.
It was a turning point for us. We took a step back to reassess our strategy. We recognized that not every opportunity was worth pursuing if it meant compromising our ability to deliver quality work and maintain a healthy work-life balance. We had to unlearn the idea that more clients automatically equated to success.
From then on, we began to carefully evaluate potential clients, seeking those who aligned with our values and vision. We learned the importance of setting clear expectations from the beginning and ensuring that both parties were on the same page. This shift in approach not only led to better client relationships but also allowed us to dedicate more time and attention to each project, resulting in improved outcomes.
So, the valuable lesson we had to unlearn was that saying “yes” to every opportunity isn’t always the right path. It’s about quality over quantity, and finding clients who share our passion and commitment has proven to be the key to our agency’s growth and success.
