We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Melinda Tichenor a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Melinda , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Since I was a teenager I have always been into photography. It has always been something I enjoy. In 2007/2008 I even won a nature photography contest online for a photo I took when I was a senior in high school! I never really pursued it too much, I would take photos for myself and even photos of friends and family, but I never moved into selling my art until my youngest got into school.

Melinda , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a wife and mother of three (plus a dog mom). I have always had a passion with photography, mainly nature! I love to go out into nature and catch all the beauty there is out there. Sometimes we get caught up in the day to day and we forget all the beauty there really is. It’s so easy to get swept up in the darkness that is out there when you aren’t looking for the light. Photography is my creative outlet, it brings me happiness. Now that my youngest child is in school I decided to step out of my comfort zone and see what can become of my passion! You never know until you make that first uncomfortable step. I create images for displaying in your home, office or anywhere needing some beauty. I’ve even created some special custom pieces for people who have lost their loved ones, including myself. I enjoy bringing light to people in their times of darkness.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
in all honesty, I don’t really have a huge goal I want to get to in my business. My mission is just to share beauty, and if along the way I can become something bigger I would absolutely LOVE that. Hiking and exploring nature is my way of helping my own mental health journey though, it’s how I keep myself in the light more than the darkness. I do this because it is something that helps me, but maybe these images and creations can help someone else out there trying to find their way out of the darkness. There’s no financial mission for me in this, would it be great if I could make something big of it? YES, but I am not money motivated with my art, it’s all about the beauty and happiness for me.
