We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Melinda Matticoli a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Melinda, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I recently worked on was a short film, “Average Guy” we recently wrapped. This project was meaningful for me because due to multiple circumstances, the project seemed like such a far away and impossible to do vision because of budgets and logistics. This project was completed with the help and support of many family and friends. It was so meaningful to me because this project was a vision I had for over a year and bringing it to life was an extreme joy.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a freelance artist in dance, choreography, education, creative direction, and filmmaking. I got into this industry when I started dancing at the age of 3. Throughout my training, I started finding a passion for creating and choreographing my work. I have felt greatly inspired to continue evolving this to develop into film work and present my work through the camera’s perspective. I also have found my passion as an educator, and being able to have the privilege to teach people of other experiences and backgrounds is such a unique experience.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is being able to spend time throughout my day creating. This is something I feel extremely grateful for and don’t take lightly. I feel being a creator is one of the most challenging careers but being able to make art makes it all worth it.

How did you build your audience on social media?
It has been SO helpful for me to start content planning on social media and prep my content in advance. It makes it so much easier and more streamlined to have all of my stories and posts pre-prepped. This also has allowed me to focus fully on my art and creating, and less on producing content constantly.
